Shumans Homewood — Restaurant in Pittsburgh

Great and decently cheap food. It’s one of the more popular local spots in Homewood, which I don’t visit too often. They are known for their deep fried burgers and sandwiches, but I decided to go for a classic Swiss burger with their complimentary cheese fries.

The fries were pretty good. A bit soggy, not that crispy, though. I did like that the cheese sauce had a tad bit of kick to it. The cheese sauce was also pretty good. Covered the fries evenly although it did taste a bit artificial. Great portion for complimentary fries.

The Swiss burger was tasty as well. I believe the mushrooms they used are canned but still alright. It wasn’t too bready and the bun was fine, soaked up some of the meat. I thought the burger itself was somewhat overdone.

However, I really liked the sauces. This helped make the meat feel less dry and also made sure the burger had a good balance of savory and sweetness. They gave quite a few complementary sauces on the side, too.

All in all, a pretty good spot. The burger was standard but not bad. Great portion of fries, and they were pretty solid too....

The deep fried burger was overall not a great experience. The patties were dry and the wrong temperature, and tasted like the burgers you get at the school cafeteria. The breading didn't even look fried and had a cardboard texture and taste. The lettuce just shouldn't be in there as it was chopped and got in the way. The fact that they priced it exactly at $11.99 so that you had to order something else to get free delivery is cheesy. This is my first time ordering from here. I ordered through Uber eats and I'm not sure where the confusion was but I did not get the correct order. I ordered a cheese steak hoagie, a Faygo soda, and a Oreo pie. I got cheese fries, the Faygo soda, and some kind of healthy drink. I called the restaurant and the said it was the driver's error, however the soda was in with the fries; unless the other person ordered the same soda as well.
