The staff are so helpful, the materials fairly priced and there are often volunteers showing their work, their passions and creativity and giving of their time to this community gem. I bought gift certificates for my kids' friends there instead of buying new stuff that'll likely be soon broken, lost and need to be thrown out. For a 20th of the price of buying materials new, I was able to buy paint and accessories for our Halloween costumes. Recently I got some things for Christmas crafts and other bits and bobs to fill in our craft area. Staplers for a fraction of new, and boxes of new staples. Maybe best of all, masking is still required, so this lessened our risk of catching (or spreading had we been in early stages and not know it) of the flu, covid or the school cold de jour when visiting. This keeps the employees, shoppers and volunteers safe. Lastly, the workers know their stock and find out if not. They don't guess or give vague answers. So often I've called and received helpful answers which brought me in the next day. Choose local and choose Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse over a dollar store or Bezos' billions everyday. If you're unable to shop, they also have many things on line and curb pick-up as...
Read moreI only discovered this gem in late 2019-early 2020, and due to the pandemic, the in-store shopping has been suspended (They had a limited online pick-up service, and still might-I’m not sure). It was like experiencing heavenly nirvana each time that I went. Literally anything, everything and things in between for a fraction of the cost of chain stores. One week you could find bulk tile for bathroom floors, the next week I bought a huge bag of vintage cards for $5 (so far, it’s supplies cards for 8 birthdays, a baptism, a dozen Easter cards, and 24 Christmas cards) 🤑 Anywho, next to killing hundreds of thousands of people and disrupting modern society, COVID-19 has taken this shop from me and I sometimes drive past slowly, hoping that the door to paradise is open again 😂
I hope the staff is healthy and well, and there are a lot of people looking forward to seeing you all again. I bet that you could sell 30 minute time slots for 1-2 patrons to shop for $100 minimum and I think you’d be surprised who was interested...
Read moreI cannot believe I've lived in the city for over 20 years and only last year heard about this place. It's a broke artist's dream come true. Imagine a billion retired artists got together and they had a giant garage sale where the average price is $.25. Glue sticks, fabric scraps, glass bottles, trophies to repurpose, music boxes, old typewriters, wrapping paper, and on and on it goes. Nothing is new, but when you're trying to make Christmas ornaments and you just need a gazillion mardi gras beads, THIS is the place to be. I've left with my arms FULL of supplies having only paid $10. If there's something SPECIFIC you want and you know it's at Joann's or Michael's, by all means go for it. But if you don't mind a scavenger hunt for the generic equivalent, hit up Creative...
