3 stars, why? To be honest, for an italian restaurant with almost 5 stars, I expected better. Maybe my standards are a bit too high, but I personally feel as if I got mediocre quality for the price. Service was a bit slow, 2 tables walked in after me and got their entrees prior to I and they were not busy. There was 1 table already seated, myself and then the 2 other parties that walked in after me. I will start off with the good — the staff and customer service was great. The server I had was friendly, attentive and very people oriented. The fried mozzarella I had ordered was very good and the sauce was spot on. For our entrees, my fiancé and I had both ordered alfredo and the portions were HUGE. I swear I had lunch, dinner, and enough for lunch the next day! That’s a plus! However, the pasta was extremely over cooked.. it did not have a “bite” to it and was mushy. For an italian restaurant with homemade pasta, I was expecting the cooks to know how to make it. Fresh pasta cooks quickly and I know sometimes it can be tricky. After mentioning this to my server, she talked to the cooks and had told me next time to ask for it al dente; I don’t know a single italian restaurant that tells you to order your pasta al dente.. It is kind of something that is already known - always cook pasta al dente, never over cook it, it ruins the meal. Most people do not like over cooked mushy pasta and I was shocked to be told that’s how I should order it next time. The alfredo sauce was good and the bread on the table was a bonus but the overcooked pasta really ruined it for both my fiancé and myself. I had ordered a cup of coffee and it was delicious, it was probably some of the best coffee I have ever had! I had mentioned the over cooked pasta to my server and she was very understanding and went out of her way to make it right. I was in no way looking for something free, but just wanted to let her know that something was not right with our order.. Overall, I had expected better after reading the reviews and I’m a bit disappointed. However, the customer service provided was more than I...
Read moreIs there a way to give less than 1 star? This restaurant is horrible on so many levels. We were a reservation of 11 people on Father's Day. We were shoved into a corner at a cluster of tables which could only have seated 8 comfortably. We were given 2 menus and told the rest would be dropped off, because they didn't have enough in the restaurant to go around. After 10 minutes of no more menus and no server, I had to go to the hostess stand to get them myself. The water glasses were water spotted and had bits of food stuck to them. The water pitchers were cloudy plastic (from overuse) like you'd find at a dive bar. When the food arrived, everyone got their meals except for my father. On Father's Day. TWENTY MINUTES later, after I had to make 3 trips to find our server, he finally got his lasagna. LASAGNA is what took that long. My son's "medium rare" steak was so well done it was gray. My husband's veal pagliacci was cube steak. My pasta puttanesca was 2lbs of angel hair with a jar of sauce dumped on top, sprinkled with capers. All the other meals were mediocre at best. And the lasagna was absolutely NOT worth the wait. The kids all got dessert (still hungry because their meals were inedible), and when the bill arrived, nothing was done to make up for the horrendous experience. No first round of drinks on the house, no free dessert, no comped lasagna. The server took so long coming back for the bill, that I had to bring it out her at the hostess stand. My mother was so distraught that our celebration of my father was so awful, that she couldn't even speak to anyone at the restaurant that evening. She called on Monday and asked to speak to a manager. She received a half-hearted apology, but no offer to refund a portion of the bill, or send a gift certificate (not that we would EVER go back). Severely disappointed in this place which many describe as a Plainville favorite. Do NOT waste your time or money at...
Read moreCame here for my birthday. Hadn't been here in roughly 35 years, and now I remember why. My mother ordered stuffed shells with marinara sauce. The waitress claimed they had given her stuffed shells to another table, and the person started eating it so they had to remake. When they finally brought the stuffed shells, they were not very warm. My daughter ordered homemade ziti (pictured here). When it was brought to the table, we were shocked to see something that was so undercooked and doughy. We've had homemade pasta every place from Arthur Avenue to other home style restaurants, and I've never seen anything like this. I tried a piece without sauce because I wanted to see if this was as undercooked as it looked. There was an underlying taste of mildew, as if the pasta had sat in a case for way too long. Four of us at the table tried a piece, and we all agreed that there was something off about this pasta. Told the waitress, and my daughter decided not to wait for another meal to be made. I had a pizza, and others had big dishes, so she was going to share ours. The manager came flying over to the table and said that "3 of us " in the back tried the pasta (which I thought was odd.... In these days of Covid, you're eating off a returned customer plate?!??), and the pasta was fine. She didn't taste mildew. I told her you could see how undercooked it looked, and my husband said we all tried it, and it tasted wrong. Her response was that if my daughter wasn't going to order another dinner that they'd have to charge her a shared plate charge. Really? A customer returns food due to quality issues, and now you're going to charge them anyway? I was shocked how unapologetic and accusatory she was. I pretty much swallowed my anger so as to not make a scene, but I was very upset. The 2 stars is only because our waitress was nice, and I recognized this was in no way her fault. Won't return. Beware of old food and...
