I've got to tell ya, I was very disappointed with this visit, so my wife and I will not be returning anytime soon. The two of us like to go out for breakfast once every week or two, and today, we decided to give IHOP a try. We have our regular breakfast places here in Plant City, but every now and then, we will try another location just in case we have been missing that jewel of a restaurant. We have eaten at IHOP's before, and the food is usually good, but today, it was not so. First, the pancakes were very small, especially for the House of Pancakes, and they tasted like flour and milk. Pasty with a blan taste. Next, only one type of syrup was offered, regular thin Maple syrup. No strawberry syrup, no blueberry syrup, no Orange syrup, and we live in the middle of the growing fields for all of these. I'm not sure what they used as Butter because it had a waxy taste, and it definitely was not natural or homemade butter. Our breakfast entries were horrible, my omlit and my wife's eggs were covered in grease, her grits blan tasting and runny. My ham, American cheese, spinich, tomato, and mushroom omlit had almost none of the ingredients. Spinach was spread on top, but all I could find was two small squares of Ham, two small pieces of mushrooms, no tomatos, and I had to guess if any cheese had been added. Our coffee was bitter, and the ice water had an old metallic taste to it. I must admit that our server was good at her profession. She was prompt with our requests and stopped by our table several times to see if anything was needed. I did mention as we were leaving that both our eggs were cooked in heavy grease and were not good. She apologized, but that was all. No offer to let the cook know, no offer to get a manager, no type of customer service recovery attempt.
So for my wife and I, it will be NO to a second trip, and if I my asked where would be a good place to have breakfast, IHOP will be one location I...
Read moreWas packed when we came in, which is understandable (it is a holiday). Got seated after 15 minutes and were given water while we waited. It tasted like they scooped it from a fish tank or got their water from the aquarium at Seaworld. We were given a very small, limited menu. No fruit and no toppings for pancakes. We ordered and I went to the restroom. When you walk in, there is a sink ripped out and detached from the wall, lying broken on the floor. A man walked in to evaluate the sink situation while there were still ladies using the restroom. He tried to hold a conversation with me as a waited for a stall to become available. He had no uniform on to indicate that he was an employee or maintenance person. After he left, I went to wash my hands in the sink that wasn’t on the floor. The water pressure was weaker than an ant trying to lift a cinder block. Fine— poor water pressure, I’ll get some soap. Wrong. The soap dispenser was broken. Okay, I’ll dry my hands. Wrong again. There were no paper towels. I went back to the table and used my own hand sanitizer. Waited for a few more minutes and observed the atmosphere. We looked up at the ceiling, and there was mold growing right above our heads. It felt like COVID-19 was embodied and manifested itself into an IHOP. The tables were dirty and had dishes left on them, even though we had been there for a large quantity of time. Never did we ever think we would have to run out of a restaurant. Will not be returning and we DO NOT recommend. Not sure how they...
Read moreThe manager on duty was accommodating, our server was over-sat, and half the food was prepared poorly.
My partner ordered biscuits and gravy, eggs, and turkey bacon - the biscuits were shaped like thick pancakes, and they put the turkey bacon on the biscuit pucks before adding the gravy. This wouldn't have been an issue, except that the turkey bacon was severely undercooked (and with its removal we ended up sacrificing nearly all of the gravy.) I ordered an omlette (which was fine, as it's just eggs and veg) but the cooks or another server misplaced my side of hash browns. We ended up getting the side after I'd already finished my plate, so we took the taters home in a container.
The manager on duty knocked 10% off for the inconvenience without hesitation, and our server apologized. This was little fault of theirs, but instead belonged to the cook staff in the back.
I understand that it was busy, I've worked in hospitality and food service, I know how bad it can get. A sliver of attention to detail would have made the difference. I don't mind waiting for food that's prepared well. I don't have an issue being told "they're making sure everything is right, just a few minutes more." What I take issue with is uncooked food and missing items.
Everyone we spoke to was kind, polite and courteous - it was the basic preparation of the food that was lacking. I've eaten at IHOP locations across the country - this is one I probably...
