First Visit: Very delicious made-to-order food. Great customer service. Adorable hole-in-the-wall classic Americana diner (unfortunately a rarity to come by nowadays!). Overall great spot for breakfast.
Edited-To-Add: Unfortunately my opinion on this place has gone down after several more visits. The food is good when the order is correct. Twice in a row now my order was brought out incorrectly (minor things, like wheat instead of white toast, or sausage added to the plate when it wasn't ordered, but incorrect nonetheless.) And these occurrences happened post breakfast rush, too.
Then there's the service -- the servers never seem friendly. I know this can be deemed strictly as an American first-world problem, but having previously worked as a server & had the expectation of rolling out the red carpet with kindness for all my guests all the time, it'd be nice to experience it when I am a guest too.
For example, along with a lack of any smiling, the servers I've had don't say "you're welcome" after I've said thank you, nor do they ask if I want my coffee topped off before just doing so. Forgive me if it's deemed as nit-picky, but you never know if a guest has their coffee sweetened just as they like or if they are dietarily restricting themselves to a single whole cup and don't need more added to what they've got going. Speaking of coffee, three visits ago I ordered a large iced mocha but they were out of the large to-go cups --fine-- but they left it as a "oh, well" kind of situation. Leave it up to me - as the guest- to be resourceful and go the extra mile as a self advocate to suggest they provide the equivalent via two smaller to-go cups. 🙄
I recognize this is a diner and not a Michelin star establishment, but it's because of these being such small-potato-esque problems, they could've been easily avoided/remedied. I have understanding of things happening occasionally, but as issues have occurred three consecutive times for me now, one can't help but wonder if it's beyond coincidence and could be attributed to their standards of practice and hires. 🤷🏼♀️ Overall, I've been to The Wooden Spoon several times now to warrant my review without being hasty about it and I shouldn't have to endure, and especially not start to expect, a subpar experience every time I go...
Read morewent in today with my boyfriend to get breakfast before work, and had one of the most ,unfortunately, worst dinning experiences. once we got our food it was about 25-30 minutes before we ever saw her again. working in the service industry myself i could see the amounts of tables that were being sat, and we could also see her multiple times laughing, goofing off, talking to everyone in the kitchen, because their p.o.s. and drink stations was visible where we were sitting. a table across from us experienced the same thing, waiting, finally a different server came over and seemed to be the only one genuinely worried for us and picked up her slack to try and help the best she could. because it was visible we could see and hear her telling our server that we needed her, and she continued talking, doing things on the p.o.s. (i understand other tables you have to do what you have to do) but the part that ruined it was the remarks we could hear “i’d love for them to do what i’m doing “ “they can wait” , and clearly frustrated body language . we asked to see a manager and she gave us, if i had to describe it, a power hungry smile, it made me feel as if i was being spoken to from a mother to a child, instant change and started to argue with us asking”why” “why do you need to see her” “look i’m sorry i’m busy” and more “why” i told her we could both see and hear her talking about us and doing nothing but what appeared to be gossip hour with her girlfriends , where she then denied it , lying more to our faces, it made us feel as if she was urging us to not tell her manager . this will be a story i tell of what not to do when training new people, i urge the managers to re think either that servers amount of tables, or help her with pacing and time management and less talking and talking about the guests. the great food was not worth the service, and we won’t be back to...
Read moreI give the wooden spoon in Plant City 5 stars, The wooden spoon in Lakeland on South Florida Avenue sucks. Their service is pathetic, For the 2nd time in a row we were seated And waitress never came The 1st time it happened to us we got the manager's attention Someone finally showed up to take our order. The last timeWe got up and was leaving when someone stopped us and asked why we were leaving. The wooden spoon in Plant City really Went down hill. We ate there on Sunday and our home price were cold eggs were cold Food was awful. Service was really super bad, She even tried to charge us 299 for a Is Creamer full of milk, She even misrepresented the menu by telling my grandson that the grits came with the meal and then charge those for them. The food was so bad that all 3 of us Was sick Sunday night and most of Monday, She also had a debit card For a long time now we're looking for any peculiar charges. She was very dishonest in some of the things she did. I called her out on The Creamer of milk and told her to bring me a small glass of milk if she wanted to charge me 2 99 for it, We only use the Creamer for My coffee, If you're thinking about going to the wooden spoon and Lakeland R Plant City please reconsider and go to the ihop...
