What do you get when you have a Georgia pig and an undisputed pitmaster. The survey says.. Georgia Pig BBQ & Restaurant. I passed this place many times when I visit South Florida, located north of 595 on 441. I have a theory, and that is if you're selling BBQ and there's no fresh plumes of smoke rising from your chimney then you're eating previously cooked and stored BBQ.... Maybe even from the day before. Not at Georgia Pig BBQ & Restaurant. On this particular day, I'm leaving an appointment from TRC. I'm driving up 441, with my windows down, and I'm hungry enough to eat a pig. Well a lo and behold I smell fresh meat on the grill. I look up from the traffic signal at the intersection where I'm stopped and I see smoke bellowing from a chimney. It's Georgia Pig BBQ & Restaurant. I pull into the restaurants parking lot, to the back lot and I see why the aroma of something sensational going on feels the air. There is fresh wood being processed for the grill inside. Once inside a friendly face welcomes me and I'm allowed to sit where I please. As soon as I'm seated, my Rockstar of a waitress meets me and immediately takes my beverage order. When she returns, I place my order which is filled and delivered within minutes. My food is fresh, piping hot and is at the ready to please my pallet. I am not disappointed! I can arguably suggest that this is one of the best BBQ restaurants in South Florida AND there's indoor table seating in the comfort of an air conditioned, stress-free environment. Not only do I highly recommend, but I will definitely be back to sample more of the succulent items on the menu. Oh, one last thing here, the quality and quantity of the food.. I'll just say it's unbelievably affordable. So bring the family and dig in! Please LIKE if this helps you and / or FOLLOW so I can...
Read moreIt's a shame that I have to write a poor review because I have been looking forward to visiting for a while now. First, the building interior and exterior looks a little rundown, AC vents dirty and dripping condensation, weeds overgrown over their piles of oak wood in the parking lot, but hey, they've been in business since 1953 so the BBQ should be awesome. Service was great, the server who helped me was very nice and attentive. I ordered the sliced BBQ beef platter with coleslaw and macaroni salad, ice tea to drink. The sides were delicious, the tea was great, the BBQ smelled delightful. The sliced beef tasted great but it was as tough as eating an old tire. It wasn't tender like good BBQ should be. I was starving since I skipped breakfast and it was around 3pm in the afternoon so nevertheless I inhaled the meal. The price was low enough to offset the mediocre meat. I paid, left a tip, and was on my way. It is now 11AM the next day and I have had an upset stomach for over 12 hours now. I've visited my toilet about 8 times and in between I've been very gassy. Since this was my only meal of the day yesterday I'm 100% sure something in my BBQ meal was contaminated somehow. If it was my place, I'd shut down for a week for a deep deep cleaning. The owners need to take pride in their facilities and clean the place up. It was a Sunday afternoon and only 4 tables had customers. Obviously the clientele has spoken by choosing not to visit Georgia Pig for a Saturday dinner. Hopefully something is done before this restaurant's 60+ year history becomes no more. I highly doubt I will ever be back, you only have one chance for a first impression and the only impression I have is the toilet seat on my...
Read moreThe first thing you think is "hole in the wall" despite being a stand alone building and business. But that's the Georgia Pig, and that's the way it's appeared for the 50-plus years I can recall seeing it as a Broward County establishment.
Amazingly, though, and despite being a lover of BBQ and living in its vicinity all my life, I had never got there until my Friday 9/23 visit. Oh what I've missed!
The small dining room is rather rudimentary, showing its age, but cozy and friendly for that all the same. Wait staff was friendly, attentive and helpful. They didn't have to recommend much, as I and my friend already knew what we were going to have: BBQ beef and pork, and plenty of it, with crinkle fries and a sweet/savory coleslaw alongside and some toasted bread to mop up with after.
But oh, the main event! Smoked beef and pork, thinly sliced, moist and flavorful with a savory, tangy and peppery sauce lightly applied (with more available on the side, thank you very much, and a more traditional sweet and smoky one too) to enhance things wonderfully. Loved those combined on the fries, too. This was absolutely what BBQ in general and the Georgia Pig in particular are all about, and I certainly found myself questioning why I had taken so long to visit.
No scrimping on the dessert, either; as unprepossessing in presentation as everything else, the banana pudding gets it all right exactly where it should just like everything else at this delightful establishment - by being tremendously tasty where and how it should.
I have no idea why it took me over 50 years to get to the Georgia Pig, but I can tell you this much: It won't take anything like that long to return to this little Broward...
