Moms Cafe is a staple in Plattsmouth, it's been in the same location on Main Street as long as I can remember. We moved to Plattsmouth in 1985 and it was basically the only restaurant downtown at the time. It's a nice size little restaurant and as I recall it was always busy and usually had to wait for a table to open up. In 2003, we moved into Omaha. We don't get into Plattsmouth much anymore but once in a while we'll go for brunch. On this day we came, we were planning on going to another restaurant called Bliss, but found out they were no longer in business, so we stopped at Mom's. I don't think it has changed since 1985. Same decor as I remembered from way back when. Just a nonchalant, easy going, nobody is in a hurry. There were only two or three other people at noon when we got there for a Saturday. Maybe the town people come in earlier to get coffee and breakfast, it said on the window their hours are 7:30 to 2:30 every day except on Friday night. Friday night they have All you can eat Fish fry. You get that feeling of home town cooking. The food was delicious, it always was even back in 1985. I had the ham and cheese omelet but added green pepper, tomato and mushrooms, it came with hash browns, my daughter ordered the pancake sandwich which consisted of two big pancakes, one egg and 2 pieces of bacon. The staff is friendly, they greet you as you come in, and as you leave, they thank you for coming and wish...

We’re new to the area & had heard great things about Mom’s Cafe. But the food, service, & staff attitude left us wanting more. 10 mins, just to be seated, 35 mins for food.
Upon entering the restaurant today, there was a noticeable sewer gas/bad sump pump smell. That should have been our first cue to leave. The hostess was ringing up another customer & said she’d be with us shortly. (A suggestion - if you’re short staffed, just welcome someone into the restaurant, tell them to seat themselves at any clean table & we’ll be with you as soon as we can). But instead we stood awkwardly at the entry for 10 mins waiting to be seated.
The only plus was our server - I didn’t catch her name. But she was friendly & quick with drink refills.
But we waited. And waited. And waited. For our food. There was a table of 4 ahead of us. That was it. We were there about 1:40pm. Not busy at all.
I ordered the breakfast trio (gravy was cold); my husband ordered a burger, meat was not seasoned.
We went to pay at the front counter - & again, the hostess seemed as if we were an inconvenience. I noticed the dry-erase board behind her that read “Please be patient, we are all short staffed & please be kind to those who showed up”. But her attitude was one of inconvenience, not - “We’re doing our best”.
First & last time for us, & we won’t be...
Read moreI come into Mom's fairly regularly and just love it. First, the atmosphere is charming. From the vintage advertisements on the walls to the 1950s music, I feel transported back in time.
The servers are all delightful - friendly and attentive. I feel like they are always willing to go above and beyond. Of course, I love that they recognize me and greet me with the knowledge of what I like to order. It feels personal in a good way.
The dining area and kitchen are both clean. And the food is delicious. No, you aren't going to get health food or flavored coffee here (but I love the cappuccino!), but you will get a hot, filling meal that is tasty and reasonably priced. Add that to the ambiance and friendly service, and I have to say this is my favorite place to eat...
