We've been loyal customers of this restaurant for years, ordering weekly during my pregnancy and making it our go-to for special occasions. Recently, after spending over a week at the hospital with our son, we were looking forward to enjoying our favorite comfort food the night before his discharge.
Unfortunately, this order reinforced an ongoing issue we've experienced here - their problematic packaging system. When ordering multiple dishes (more than two), the containers consistently collapse on each other due to overpacking, resulting in spilled food. This time, half of our dishes ended up at the bottom of the bag. Being in a hospital room with limited space and no access to extra bowls or cleanup supplies made this situation particularly frustrating.
The food itself deserves praise - the flavors are consistently amazing. However, what really disappointed us was the owner's response to our feedback. When I reached out (not seeking compensation, just hoping for improvement), they offered to send a gift card if I provided the receipt. After I followed through with the requested information, they simply ghosted me, viewing my follow-up message without responding.
This lack of follow-through is especially disappointing given our history with the restaurant. A simple acknowledgment and commitment to improve their packaging would have sufficed - there was no need to make empty promises of compensation.
Pros: Exceptional food quality and flavor Convenient location Usually good portion sizes
Cons: Consistent packaging issues leading to spilled food Poor follow-through on customer service promises Management seems unresponsive to feedback despite multiple similar complaints
Unfortunately, we've stopped visiting this establishment. While we miss the delicious food, we can't justify continuing to deal with the packaging issues and disappointing customer service. If management improves their packaging system and takes customer feedback more seriously, we'd love to return.
Tip for potential customers: If ordering takeout, request dishes in separate bags or limit your order to 1-2 items per bag to avoid spillage issues. Or just avoid ordering out...
Read more2nd update: Dined again for dinner. Had an amazing appetizer of fried cauliflower. So yummy! Naan bread was good. Lamb Vindaloo was good, very rich. Paneer Saag was the only big bummer; it was too salty. But I still love this restaurant and will be back. Well done Himalayan!
Update: I finally made it back to try the buffet. It was AWESOME!!! There are about seven curry options and then a few more dishes along with naan on the hot table. I enjoyed everything I tried. I love that there are vegetarian options! There was also a cold table that had salad (delicious), fruit, sauces, and rice pudding. The staff made sure to bring out food when it got low. They also served us our drinks (mango lassi was very good) and made sure that we were enjoying our food. I'm excited to go back. A standout dish was the egg curry. I never even knew such a thing existed...and it was amazing. The only thing I would recommend they improve upon is the naan, as it still was a little dry. That won't keep from returning though. Well done, Himalayan Flavor!
Original: I would definitely recommend: goat curry, lamb masala, chicken caldin, and chicken 65. The veg pakoda is gross. There are lots of flavors of naan but it is pretty dry. I tried the garlic, cheese, and sweet naan. The rice that comes with entrees is yummy too with subtle spices added in very small quantities like fennel and whole cloves, I think. The rice pudding is good too but could use a little more spices. I did not enjoy the rasmalai cheesecake. I want to try the beef korma, vegetable korma, mango chicken, or aloo gobi next. I was scared that it would be super spicy and so was very low on my spice preference scale. Next time I think I will go with a five out of 10 spicy. We went during dinner time and I actually think I would prefer going during their buffet time to try more dishes and be more adventurous! I look forward to...
Read moreI am writing to share a dining experience I had at Himalayan Flavor in Pocatello on June 19, 2025, which left me quite disappointed due to the way a concern was handled.
I had ordered vegetarian momos, but when they arrived, their texture and appearance strongly resembled chicken. As someone who strictly follows a vegetarian diet, this was understandably alarming. I respectfully asked a staff member, Siva, for clarification about the ingredients. However, his response was unexpectedly defensive and discourteous. He stated rather abruptly that the dish was vegetarian, mentioned that he himself is also vegetarian, and then aggressively shrugged and instructed the staff to remove the item from the bill.
I want to emphasize that my concern was never about the payment—it was about understanding what had been served. Eventually, Siva explained that the filling was made from soyabean, which can resemble chicken when broken down. While I appreciated that clarification, his initial reaction felt dismissive and unnecessarily aggressive. It left me feeling as though my intentions were being questioned, rather than my concern being acknowledged.
Coming from Northern India, where vegetarian momos typically include mixed vegetables, I was unfamiliar with this preparation style and was genuinely seeking reassurance. The lack of professional communication in this instance was disheartening.
I’m sharing this feedback with the sincere hope that it will be taken constructively. Respectful and empathetic communication—especially when addressing dietary sensitivities—is key to creating a welcoming experience for all guests. I also made sure to pay for the momos to underscore that my concern was genuine and not an attempt to...
