Last weekend I had reserved a table for a 10-person birthday party, and even received a confirmation call the day before. On the way there, a friend who had already arrived called to say the restaurant had no record of the reservation.
After calling back the number that confirmed my reservation, I realized I had mistakenly booked the wrong restaurant with a similar name—one in Pompano where I live, not the one in Miami where we were headed. I apologized to the staff member on the phone for the confusion and admitted my mistake. They were understanding and thanked me for letting them know before hanging up. I then began scrambling to salvage the birthday plans I’d completely bombed.
While trying to fix the situation, this restaurant (Bedda Mia) repeatedly called me until I answered. When I did, a woman on the line immediately began berating me—demanding to know where I was, calling me rude, and saying she should’ve taken my credit card—then hung up before I could explain it was an honest mistake.
I’ve worked in restaurants and understand how frustrating no-shows can be. I also understnad this woman may have been upset she'd not taken a credit card on file and needed someone to blame. But one missed party on a Saturday shouldn’t ruin the night, and her expression of anger felt not just unprofessional and out of line, but deeply unkind.
I’m not writing this to hurt the restaurant’s reputation—I’ve never even eaten there, and I’m sure the food is great. I just want to highlight how one angry interaction from a single employee can shape a lasting impression. We all make mistakes; I definitely did. But human to human...
Read moreWe were there with friends this week. The waitress Maria (and owner I think) is fabulous. The price was fair and the house wine was great. The food was another story. We started out with some warm bread and confit tomatoes (in oil with garlic and herbs): delicious. We were looking forward to more good stuff unfortunately this didn't meet our expectations. My husband and I shared the "The kitchen sink" sicilian pizza was big, tasty and thick and unfortunately the dough wasn't completely cooked. We both found the pizza a bit salty (because of sausage and pepperoni) but the lasagna was soooo salty! We took half of it home. I had a taste of the lasagna my friend ordered. It was a huge portion but much to salty. I'm happy I didn't order it, I wouldn't have been able to eat it. My friend found it good. The chicken dishes, were also very generous, 2 large pieces of chicken breast in each. One had the chicken parmesan and the other the chicken marsala. They seemed to like it. The menu on the website needs updating. It's not at all what we were offered. I'm quite disapointed because this is the type of family owned restaurant I would love to go back to, but I can't handle...
Read moreWe went to Bedda Mia for the first time on their 9th day of opening. What an amazing experience. We met the owners Maria & Ettore and learned about their backgrounds. We also learned about Toni Ann’s (the server extraordinaire) background. We felt VERY welcomed. The food is truly to die for. At our table we ordered appetizers that did not disappoint. The calamari were done to perfection, the clams were amazing and the meatballs were not only very tasty, they were humongous. The entrees were all amazing and very authentic. The presentation was beautiful and the portion sizes were abundant. Maybe because the appetizers were very filling, we all had enough leftovers to enjoy lunch the next day. Needless to say, we went back yesterday for a 2nd time and brought new guests with us. Again, we were greeted by Maria and Toni Ann and again, everything from the food to the service was amazing. And again, everyone had enough leftovers to have lunch for the next day. Our new guests could not rave enough about the food. We all left on very full stomachs, hugs to Maria and promises to return again. If you want truly authentic Italian food and great service, this is the...
