I am really growing to love dining at gas stations. Key West Cuban Cafe is located in a Citgo. It is the kind of place that is a locals favorite. They are building a new residential complex next door so there is a lot of construction. The cafe has a front window so you don't have to go into the gas station unless you want to pay with a card or grab a drink. You can pay cash at the window.
I picked the Monte Cristo made with thick slices of ham and grilled cheese ($8). It was a giant grilled sandwich that came with pickles and chips. I could only finish half. I also wanted a guava pastel which Eric added for free. While I waited for my food he brewed me up a cup of Cuban coffee and then even gave me one to go for later.
The food is awesome but the real gem in this place is the owner Eric. He instantly makes you feel like you are hanging out with a long time friend. While I was waiting for my food a mom walked up with her little daughter who was also gifted with free pastry. She said she was Cuban and found her way here through word of mouth from other Cuban friends. That is a high recommendation but you don't have to be Latin to love it here. Anyone who appreciates great food will feel...
Read moreAn adorable little place with wonderful, friendly service and delicious food and drinks! We stopped by for a quick breakfast, and if we had stayed longer in Key West we would have tried to come back. We only tried the Sausage Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich, but it was delicious, as was the espresso!
I had my espresso iced with milk and sugar, which was phenomenal. The sandwich was split without us asking - so nice! I left wishing we were able to come back to try more of the extensive and I’m sure excellent menu.
The atmosphere is cute and cozy, with a fair amount of seating available. The prices were good for the portions, on both the sandwich and the drinks. I would highly recommend checking this place out! We will be back if we are ever in Key West again.

Read moreI’ve been an avid supporter of this place and Eric for well over a year now and really enjoyed his sandwiches and recipes.
Unfortunately, Eric is gone now and the new ownership has taken away a lot of what made the Cuban sandwich here so good. I ordered one today and there was ONE piece of each meat on the sandwich and about 4-5 pickles total, less and thinner slice of cheese...the list goes on. Just all around an inferior sandwich.
The reason I loved this place to begin with was Eric was adamant that if you pay 8 dollars for a sandwich you should get good value—which led to nice sized sandwiches with a pickle in every bite and a great value/taste/experience overall.
Now it’s just an overpriced 8 dollar run of the mill Cuban sandwich. I used to think it was the best in south Florida. I think you can find...
