A Philly Cheesesteak is not a Philly Cheesesteak in Cuba.
My latest experience at Miyi was unfortunately so distasteful that I can no longer support the business.
I went to Miyi with two friends today to pickup some great food to bring home. My friends ordered the Cuban, two coffees, and a fried stuffed potato thing. I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak and a fried stuffed potato thing. The woman taking our order literally rushed us saying "is that all? I have to close out the order" I informed her that it was and she started sent the order to be made in the kitchen.
While looking at the menu, I noticed that for only an extra $1, I could upgrade my sandwich with my choice of side and a soda. I asked if I could add this to my order, and was informed that I could not as the order was closed. Two minutes later, I was asked, by the same woman, if I wanted to order anything else. I wish my story ended here, and had it, then I would have returned time and time again as I love their food.
Once we arrived home, we set our plates and started to eat, beginning with the fried stuffed potato things. Interestingly enough, mine was stuffed, however my friend's wasn't. To make matters worse, my sandwich wasn't a Philly, or so I thought.
I drove back to Miyi to have my meal swapped out for the correct one. Upon informing the same woman that took my order of the food mixup, I was first told that they mixed up my sandwiches with my friend's and he had my sandwich. This was incorrect, as my friend had a very delicious Cuban sandwich. I informed her of this, and she took my sandwich inside, then brought it back and told me that they'd make a new one. She even said that I could keep the original sandwich. I really really wish the story ended here, and that I went home a very full and very happy customer.
Two minutes later, the same woman came up to me and informed me that I was wrong about the sandwich. They made the correct one. I went on to explain that a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich consists of a few key ingredients: Bread, Sliced Steak, Cheese, Onions, and occasionally, Peppers. I was then told that this was a Cuban Philly Cheesesteak, and this is how they make it. I took my cold original "Cuban Philly Cheesesteak" home after that.
Some could say the miscommunication was caused by the language barrier. Well, to those people, I would only say that the entire interaction happened in Spanish. Excluding the translating I did for my American friends.
Miyi truly does have great tasting food, and if you like Cubans, then you can't go wrong with Miyi. Unfortunately, I cannot support a business that would treat their customers in such a manner.
There's a Steak Shop two blocks east that truly has the best...
Read moreI have been trying to give this place its chance since it's a family own neighborhood business and after being shut down by the city for sanitary reasons. I always get their Cuban pastries, guava and Cheese and I always have to go back and return for a fresh one. Their coffee-cafe con leche, watch them carefully now, they dilute the espresso to make more than one leaving you with a cup of milk and a bit of coffee. On Tuesday 2/28/17 in the a.m. I went and ordered the Cuban pastry and a cafe con leche with an extra shot of expresso just to make sure I get enough coffee in my milk cup. Again coffee was not great and again the pastry was a left over from the day before probably and just reheated. The guava was rubbery and the cream cheese YELLOW and it look like it was turning, the pastry bread itself was hard. Since I left and could turn back, I called them and my called was answere politely with the girl that was there at 7:30 a.m., she got rude when I asked her about the pastry and just said, "well we have some that just came out the oven if you want to come and buy another (in Spanish) I said I couldn't and complaint that this is the usual with them including their coffee she got angry and said " she couldn't bother with my phone call cause she was to busy". So from a Hispanic that knows Cuban cuisine, don't waste your money here, it seems they are trying to make profit due to the city shutdown they had before and don't care about the customer or quality. Their other menu items are the same, quality is not great and watch out for the prices and your change. They are taking advantage of customers who can't tell the difference between a good Cuban cuisine and a poor quality one. Their Cuban friends and family they tell them to wait for the "fresh one" I have overheard them say that, so beware of their low quality not so fresh food.
5/2021..Guys I did it again, I needed coffee after a long day. Not just any coffee and cafe con leche from a good Cuban place. The only place close by and in the neighborhood, yup, Miyis. Nothing has changed besides the employees who mostvget treated horribly if they are not Cuban and the addition of the obnoxious loud music and club atmosphere on patio deck. Again, the coffee was weak, should have gone to DD or SB and I hate them. We ordered a Cuban sandwich which is nothing compare to a Cuban sandwich in the Miami Cuban coffee places. To keep it short, those positive reviews are fake, paid or fam members. Don’t waste...
Read moreSo the food was great. The problem was more so the service and also the prices. I have been coming here for about 2 years and I have always had a great experience. I even recommend this place to visitors all the time asking for some good authentic Cuban food, but in the last couple of months the service has been pitiful and the prices are getting a little out of hand. We had Juevos Rancheros for $8.50 that's a good price. Orange juice $12.00. Why?!? I get it was fresh squeezed but you put a bag of halo oranges in a machine and poured it into a glass. Plus we are in Florida the state known for ORANGES 🍊 its on every state license plate why are you taxing your customer so hard on OJ? Then we ordered bacon ham egg and cheese on Cuban bread. The server brings out the sandwiches and tells us that they forgot to put ham in it. I tell them that's fine don't worry about it. Then he took it upon himself to bring out a plate of ham and leave it on the table. Mind you we were almost done with our sandwiches at this point. We didn't touch the ham at all. When I asked for the bill they tried to charge me an additional $9.00 for 2 sides of ham that I no longer wanted that they forgot to put in the sandwich. I got them to take off the charge but that was very bold and in my opinion pretty sleazy. I think its time to take a break from this place and explore some...
