Tough Times — Restaurant in Pompano Beach

I never write reviews but this place is something special. All the good reviews were when this place was known as Lozer Lounge and under previous management. This guy bought the place in an effort to turn it into an overpriced hipster bar. Cello (the new owner) has told a patron of the bar that they need to get ‘aborted’ over instagram DM’s after they nicely criticized some aspects of a service one night. This guy is trying to entice members of the local music scene to his bar to promote his brand but he acts in a rude and petulant way to those that play shows here and buy drinks here. In a recent live show, management without telling people enforced a rule where there was no “re-entry” back in the bar. This isn’t some exclusive Miami nightclub. People are going to leave valuables, a purse, etc inside there car. This kind of policy can endanger bar goers. If someone had to much to drink and they left water outside or is having an allergic reaction. Re-entries are necessary. This is an obvious attempt to put dollars (a few people probably have drinks in there car) over professionalism and safety. Avoid this place...

While it's cool and necessary to have a place that books young local bands, the owner's attitude is really negative. Treating bands like garbage for not being able to stay the whole night for other bands, publicly posting that bands will only be booked if they come to shows and stay all night, not offering a single comp drink for performers, and mediocre service make Tough Times a tough place to recommend. The environment is not friendly if you aren't already friends with the owner and staff. The only saving grace is the local bands, who if they ever find a better place and leave behind tough times, will leave tough times in shambles. If you want to catch new bands, give it a shot but don't expect to feel welcomed. Love this place. It’s a great little dive bar that supports live/local music. I’ve played/seen countless killer shows here. The vibe is always amazing, with a killer back patio to hang out on. The drinks are always good, with attentive staff behind the bar. Pool table is a great feature as well. The owner has always been gracious with us in booking and hosting events. Easy to work with, professional and isn’t afraid to hang out in the midst of his crowd. If you’re a local band looking for a great venue I’d suggest booking here.
