Sushi Hana in Rincon hands down serves the most bland Japanese food I've ever had. The Calamari appetizer was good but a few pieces were overcooked and chewy. The salad was good because it had mixed lettuce and not just iceberg lettuce. The teriyaki sauce for the scallops was bland. The fried rice and vegetables were extraordinarily bland and as they were bland, did not have any seasoning at all and totally lacked any onions. The carrots in the steamed vegetables were rubbery to boot, which generally indicates an older vegetable. I had to add a lot of salt, pepper, teriyaki sauce and shrimp sauce to make the meal tolerable. The best comparison is that the food tasted like hospital food. My husband had a sushi roll that did not have rice in it and no rice was served on the side as is the norm in most sushi restaurants. I spoke with someone by the name of Bennie who said I needed to ask for the fried rice and vegetables to be cooked in the wok with seasoning instead of being steamed. He also told me I also needed to ask for onions to be added to anything if I wanted them. Bennie reported that many people don't like onions or seasoning in their food so they don't cook with them unless customers request them. I informed Bennie I understand but the menu should note all rice and vegetables are steamed and customers need to request onions, as well as for the food to be cooked in a wok with seasonings if they don't want bland food. Overall cost with tip was $96.00 for two people. Maybe special ordering everything might make a difference. I don't know but I doubt I'll return to find out since we have another full service Japanese restaurant in Rincon that is literally 10 times better, significantly less expensive and people don't need to special order anything to get...
Read moreI spent $150 dollars so that I could have calamari that tasted like old oil, gyoza with no seasoning, and a kids shrimp with 5 shrimp that were to overcooked for my 4 year old to eat. Nevermind the fact that every drink refill required me to find somewhere clean to place my straw because my glass was being taken to the machine. 3 separate sushi orders came for two different people came on a single plate as well, but its okay, we were brought a tiny plate so that we could split them.
While I also understand that service dogs are a thing, the two middle aged women who walked in and sat down with a dog that the hostess promptly loved on before going to clean tables wasnt the best.
My wife is severely allergic, not sure how I can be in the wrong for expecting her health not to be impacted by animals in a restaurant.
This place asks for premium prices so that they can skimp on keeping sugar and sweetener off the tables along with the shrimp sauce and any other potential necessities at the table.
$150 for something that felt mediocre was certainly disappointing.

Read moreTried negimaki steak for the first time. I had never heard of it before, but it's pictured here and it's basically a steak rolled around green onion and drizzled with a very delicious house made teriyaki sauce.
Even though the steak was thin, it was juicy and tender and perfectly cooked. There was no additional sauces or anything needed, it was delicious all on its own.
The shrimp sauce was also house made. I could tell it was made with a yogurt base rather than mayo, and it was so different and so amazing from any other shrimp sauce I had ever eaten. It was great on my salad and drizzled over my bowl of steamed rice.
I'm very happy that we have Sushi Hana in Rincon now and don't have to travel all the way to Pooler to go there anymore. This was my first time getting food other than just sushi from one of their locations. The sushi is always wonderful and I will try it at this new location...
