Ate at this place on a recommendation from The Olympic Lodge hotel (it's on their recommended restaurants list they hand to guests on request). It's a small restaurant with limited indoor seating. In warmer weather they also have a patio with some seating. The enclosed porch is where guests wait to be seated; there's a few bar stools there and they'll bring you a glass of wine while you wait. The 929 Grill is apparently very popular. The night we were there, there was a line on the enclosed porch waiting to be seated. We only had to wait like 25 minutes though. While waiting, we discovered there is a restaurant cat! The pic I included is Scottie, and she owns the place. She's quite rotund and adores attention. The cat wandered around for attention from the front porch to the kitchen and back, often stretching out on the lounge chair by the hostess station or on her own upholstered chair on the porch where her food and water bowls are - this is where we found her as we were leaving, and offered her a few more scritches. More than just the cat, there's food for people here too! And it was delicious! I don't typically eat Chicken Parm, but I saw the waitress (who may also be one of the owners, my wife tells me) carrying it to another table and it looked delicious so I ordered that. It was a chicken breast (not breaded!) covered in delicious homemade pasta sauce and mozzarella cheese served alongside penne paste with alfredo sauce, which was also delicious! My wife ordered some kind of seafood variety pasta dish that she said was delicious. The waitress told us they source almost everything locally, and everything is cooked in their woodfired oven. The desert was a variety of cheesecake-type offerings, that tasted fine but seemed like something store-bought to me; that was the only disappointing thing to me. It's possible they were also made in the restaurant, but I didn't ask. This is one of the those places that's only open limited hours - something like 3pm-8pmish (the ish was on their hours). We were walking out just before 8pm and there was a group that had just been sat at a table, so yeah that night it was definitely 8ish. If we're ever back in Port Angeles and need to stop for a meal, I'm going to suggest this...
Read moreMy partner and I went to this place in June of this year while we were visiting her Port Angeles family. It was a special occasion and my partner wanted to treat her family to a nice dinner.
My girlfriend has worked in the restaurant industry for over 12 years and has worked in multiple fine dining restaurants, including a steakhouse. When the food came out, my girlfriend noticed almost immediately that her steak was over done.
She ordered it medium rare, but it don’t come out that way. She (we) thought it would be a simple solution at a nice restaurant- just swap it out for a new piece. The server was very accommodating and took it back to the cook (which is apparently the owner? need to verify this..), but then the cook sent it back saying “that it was perfectly cooked and that nothing was wrong it”. I get it, nice cuts of meat are expensive.
But, it was a bummer that this restaurant couldn’t look past that. Instead, it cast a pretty sour mood on the rest of the night (our fault, we know that) and was a bummer for my girlfriend who paid the whole $250 bill (she is in school and doesn’t have a large disposable income, so this was a lot for her). I wasn’t going to write a review about our experience here, but I recently took my girlfriend to a nice restaurant for another special occasion where they apologized that her steak was taking awhile because it had initially come out too done and they had voluntarily cooked another one for her.
I had a mixed seafood dish and really enjoyed it. Also, the atmosphere of this restaurant was great. Be sure to say hi to the cat! Stars for those things, less stars for our steak debacle. We only had one data point to rate this restaurant and am slow to want to write a negative review, but this was a little much and...
Read moreWe chose this restaurant because they had ribeye and filet on the menu. We didn’t realize the heat wave would close down the grill. Once we were seated and informed that we could not order any grilled meats, we chose the shrimp app. He ordered the sirloin special and I ordered the short ribs. I spent over 35 years of my life in and around New Orleans and their idea of Cajun spice was mouth scalding and barely edible. Our waiter never checked in to ask how we liked the appetizers and being hungry, we fished them out of the sauce and ate them. The texture was perfect despite the over spiced sauce. The short ribs were a little charred on the outside, but fell off the bone. Definitely needed seasoning though. IMO they were relying on the bbq sauce to provide the flavor and I had it placed on the side due to preference. The sirloin special was okay, but not worth the $14 price increase from the grilled sirloin they normally serve. Had we been informed of the $48 price, we would not have ordered it. Not because we couldn’t afford it, but because it was way overpriced for 8 ounces of sirloin. I had to ask for a 2nd glass of wine, it was never offered despite our waiter offering the guy at the (very close to us) table next to us a 2nd and 3rd drink. The hostess was definitely awesome, running around bussing and cleaning tables, very polite. Many of the servers were wearing some form of sandals which is a huge health code violation in restaurants. Overall, we were not impressed...
