I've been to nearly every restaurant in Port Austin and this is by far the highest quality experience I've had.
Quality. Everywhere else I went in town seemed to utilize frozen foods. However, everything here was fresh, cooked to order. You could literally see them cooking it, so please disregard the other reviewer who claimed the food had been microwaved. The coffee was delicious, best in town. All the food exceeded our expectations, the hash browns, the pancakes, the breakfast sandwich, the breakfast burrito. Even the salsa seemed to have been made in house. Pricing. I went with my wife and my niece and all three of us had a delicious meal and drinks for $26.00. you can get an awesome breakfast burrito here for $8 and it will fill you up. Service - the two young ladies who were working we're so friendly. We were greeted immediately with a smile and shown to our table. I had my infant son with me and they set me up right away with a nice high chair. Towards the end of our meal, our waitress came over and offered us complimentary coffees to go because she knew we had a road trip ahead of us. Cleanliness. The cafe and the bathroom were spotless.
This is hands down the best food in town, it was a highlight of our trip this year. I will come back here every time I go to...
Read moreBreakfast?? Disappointing at best. It's difficult to be let down for Breakfast at a restaurant, but the Port Austin Location does exactly that. The breakfast menu is Minimal. No Omelets, no eggs to order, no toast, the "Hash Browns" are simply Frozen Triangles warmed up (not even deep fried), in fact, it seams, All of the food is poor quality Frozen items! The sausage patties, the potato triangles, even the Cinnamon Rolls seem to be Thawed items then served. The choices on the menu are in large print and only fill One standard size page. What was good? The bacon! The coffee was mediocre. The Sausage gravy was "not the best, but good". The Crepes were great though! The servers were friendly, but services were a bit slow. It's hard to disappoint me with breakfast, but from the time I looked over the menu to finishing my meal, Cafe 53 North (Port Austin) did just that. I would recommend finding an alternative restaurant for breakfast. (Please Note: The Wraps we had for Lunch the day before were pretty good though!) Wish my breakfast experience was...
Read moreI was beyond disappointed with my experience at Cafe 53 North this morning. While our waitress provided excellent service, the quality of the food was far from acceptable. It felt like our meals were entirely prepared in the microwave.
To start, the waffles were mushy and a major letdown. Eggo waffles from a toaster would have been better. The bacon, sausage, and hash browns were slimy, as if they were just microwaved. My mom's crepes were refrigerator-level cold, making them completely inedible.
The prices were high, especially compared to their other location in Bad Axe. While I expected a slight upcharge due to the Port Austin location, I wouldn't have wanted this meal even for free.
Overall, I expected much better from Cafe 53 North, particularly given my positive experiences with their Bad Axe location. I'm not usually one to complain, but this...
