4 stars for the diner ONLY. I saw tuna melt on the menu and didn't look any further for lunch. The sandwich tasted great and I enjoyed sitting at the counter and chatting with an old friend. The gift store I wouldn't have bothered to review/rate at all. I was in the area and able to meet with a good friend I hadn't seen for years for only a few hours. I thought we could catch up while I shopped for a birthday gift for my son. At one point while browsing the gift store, we got caught up in a serious conversation and, although we were being careful not to block the aisles (the store was pretty much empty) and I don't think we were giving off any shoplifting vibes at all (no large bags, not standing close to merchandise), the owner tried to politely shoo us along after a few minutes. I didn't go to the diner so much for the food but for the opportunity to chat with an old friend. I was happy to have a good sandwich while I did that. I didn't go to the gift store so much knowing it would have something I wanted but on the chance it would have something I wanted and I could chat while I looked. After reading other reviews of this place (at a variety of sites), I guess the slight vibe I got to shop or move on was consistent with a few other peoples'...
Read moreHow cheap can they be! My friend and I ordered a sandwich. The waitress asked if we wanted it toasted, we said Ok. When the bill came, it showed each of us an extra 50 cent charge. When we questioned this the waitress brought over the owner and he said it was an extra charge for toasting the bread. He said the griddle was already hot, but he had to plug the toaster in. Nowhere on menu this was stated. You got to be kidding, 50 cents to toast our bread. Didn't dare to use the bathroom, he probably would charge me 50 cents to turn on the light switch! My brother-in-law also went there and ordered a burger for $8.00, but across the street (Stock Pot) you get a burger and a small bowl of soup for $5.99. Don't waste you time or money at Lake...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I walked in and from the moment we stepped foot in the store we felt like we were being watched like a hawk. The store owner/employee watched and followed us around the entire store. She was EXTREMELY rude to us. Her and her co-worker audibly discussed that they beleieved we were stealing and to "check to make sure everything they touched is still there". We couldn't be more normal looking people (WASP). Being in just a bathing suit and t-shirt, I'm not sure where she thought we could be hiding something. For a tourist town gift shop it was hilariously overpriced and very non-welcoming. By far the worst part of Port Austin. Don't...
