Came to Port Clinton for the 2024 solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. After a long and wonderful day of watching the total eclipse, we went to our hotel room and took a nap, but by the time we woke up it was almost 8pm so we went online to find some where to eat supper. Although there are plenty of places to eat in town almost all of them close by 8pm. Could have been because it was out of season maybe, but we saw that Slater’s Food & Spirits stayed open late and it just down the road from our hotel. I didn’t have high hopes because it was one of the only places to eat except for Dominoes at that was still open, but we had pizza the night before so we’re up for anything else. We were amazed with this place! I ordered a hamburger with the works and my wife ordered the fish sandwich. The Perch on my wife’s fish sandwich was not only delicious but the two fillets they put on this one sandwich were so huge that they were too big for the bun, which is a great problem to have. They were so big she gave me one bless her heart. Not only was it hot and extremely delicious, but I haven’t seen perch fillets that big served at a restaurant or anywhere else in that fact, since the early 80’s or maybe ever. Perch is my favorite fish, but I’m always leery about order it when I see it on a menu at any restaurant. I always want to order it, but every time I do, not only is it very expensive, but the fillets usually end up being so small and thin that they curl up after being fried. The filets usually end up looking like a small potato chip and are almost as dry and crispy. This was not at all the case at Slater’s. In my opinion it was the best Perch I’ve have ever had in my entire life and I just had one filet. I thought I would have food regret for not ordering the Perch Dinner, but the hamburger after seeing and tasting that one filet on my wife’s sandwich. To my surprise my burger was ones of the best I have had in a very long time. Big, cooked just the way I asked, juicy, seasoned well, and so delicious that I insisted that my wife have some since she was nice enough to share her delicious Perch with me. She thought it was just as wonderful as I did! Even though the portions were on thee larger side, we both ate everything because the food was so good. The staff was also very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was great too. I wanted to come back the next day to order the Perch dinner for lunch before we left for home, but we had to leave early because we had a long drive ahead of us. I do know that If we ever come back to the area, Slater’s Food & Spirits will be...
Read moreDon't get the pork chops. Very overcooked and so tough that they almost weren't edible. Sweet potato fries and pot stickers were great. My other party members tried to order one of the specials, and our server came back twice, telling us that they only had 2 and then 1 left. They were not impressed even when they did get the last order available. I know it's a bar that serves food more than a restaurant, however, when the server brought us flatware, it was simply piled in the middle of the table. (I know it's a slightly pretentious point, however, if you're serving, then dont do it lazily.) When we got an appetizer for 5 to share. No individual plates, just the pot stickers. None of us were impressed with the food. Kinda pricey for the quality. The only positive is that everything else around here closes super early. There is no desire to return here. Not to just complain, the staff was nice and the food...
Read moreWell me and my boyfriend stopped in last night to attempt to have dinner celebrating a wonderful day at cedar point. We walked in and it was very slow, no one greeted us, after the hostess got done cleaning a table and the bartender looking over at us the hostess finally sat us. As we were sitting two men walked in and were immediately greeted and given waters, me and my boyfriend continued to sit with no service. We’re a biracial couple so it’s kinda a small town and we were stared at upon entering this restaurant… and for no one to say a word to us really was frustrating. After 10 minutes of sitting we walked out, the hostess was at the counter didn’t say a word to us as we left. WONT come back, sad. Definitely felt some type of way. Welcome and engage all customers. Even if your busy greet us and let us know it’ll be a minute or something??? But two men were greeted and serviced...
