White's BBQ — Restaurant in Port Lavaca

I always stop here going to work to pick up a couple of bar b que chopped beef sandwiches or brisket sausage sandwiches to go. I used to work at a bar b que joint in college and this has the same look, old bar b que soaked walls and that brown age stain over everything that once was white or light coloured like the plastic white menu boards. But that is just the ambiance. There are a lot of neat photos of local fishermen and catches on the walls. Its almost like a frontier western feel. Right adjacent to it is another area that serves great burgers. It is the home if the Big Daddy Burger and believe me it is huge and wonderful. Order one and feed a family of four! The bar b que is very good and moist and wonderful. Of course its a little expensive but i guess we dont raise enough cattle in Texas to lower our beef prices. (My brother who lives in North Carolina says i miss Texas brisket, we cant get it over here!). Now if you order a bar b que samich to go make sure you throw in some extra napkins and dont throw the "sack o samiches" on your leather car seat or console cause the grease can ooze out. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this was hands down one of the most disappointing BBQ experiences I’ve ever had. I placed an online order for ribs, brisket slices, and a whole chicken—and honestly, I’m not sure which of the three was worse.

The ribs were tough and dry, the brisket slices were also dry and clearly from a poor cut, and the chicken was the biggest letdown: the outside was burnt, the smoke color looked almost greenish, and the meat was extremely dry. None of it tasted like proper BBQ—just poorly prepared food.

For the price and expectations, this was unacceptable. Trying to order at this place is crazy and confusing. When you walk in there is a counter with a menu and the lady standing there said you need to order in the back, so I walked to the back and it is the same lady asking can I take your order... Why didn't she just take our order at the front? Also when you get to the back to place your order there are two sections that are next to each other one to the right and one to the left (about 2 ft away) one is for barbecue orders only and the other is for other menu items, I don't know why they have to make it so confusing and just have one counter for all orders... All of that aside, after we got our food and sat down the food was amazing and they have a wall of contest winners who finished large hamburgers within a certain time frame. Also a Wall of shame for those who did not. There was a man in there who was trying the challenge while we were in there he almost made it but he ended up getting a t-shirt for trying.
