Tell me you don’t care about your customers w/out telling me you don’t care about your customers. The pictures speak for themselves, but wow. Don’t bother calling for a takeout order because they do not answer the phone. They act annoyed when you go in to place a to go order. They let ya know it’s going to be 30-40 minutes for that to go order while acting annoyed. There are at least 6 people in that kitchen area, that is the size of a walk in closet, all trying to do the same thing. In my experience it was find cash register tape. A young man (12ish) brought me my food as I sat outside waiting. I won’t go into detail because he’s just a kid, but I do wish politeness & manners were still taught today.
The food…did they really give us burnt, inedible toast? I ordered 2 pieces, got 1 & It’s as hard as a rock! The fritters? This portion was $10!! They added no confectioners sugar topping whatsoever. Four years ago it came with a sugar topping. That must be extra now.
This is what $40 gets ya @ Griddle & Grits. The only thing missing from the pictures is my daughter’s chicken finger meal & that’s because she ate it on the way home.
I do not like leaving bad reviews, especially in such a quaint town as Port Royal, but as a local I have second hand embarrassment for this place. This old school house has had 3 different names in 4 years. I understand why. When it was the Cracked Egg, we were regulars. We would take our pup & sit in the outside seating area. The servers would bring my pup a huge (& free) pup pancake & a big bowl of fresh water. Not anymore. The last time I tried to take our dog they said they couldn’t serve us because they didn’t have enough staff to cover the outside area.We stopped going after that. Today I thought we’d give it another try.
Do they really want vacationers passing through to have this type of experience? In my humble opinion, Waffle House down the road has way better food, you will get your order faster, they have very friendly people working there & much better prices. If you don’t want to waste $40 too, Waffle House next to Food Lion has amazing cooks & servers & they treat their customers like family....
Read morei don’t usually do reviews but i feel like this one is necessary.
was really excited to try this place , tried to come in one weekend but it was busy and the wait was long to get a table (as it is a small place so this is expected) so decided to give it another try this weekend. was able to get sat quickly however did not receive any information that the kitchen was taking over an hour on food. This wouldn’t have been an issue if we had known this up front and / or at least given updates as we waited. the servers did not even attempt to say “hey sorry for the wait the kitchen is backed up but we’re workin on it.” they did not acknowledge us for over an hour as we waited for food, not even for refills on drinks
i have worked in the service industry so i understand it is not the servers fault for kitchen problems however transparency & communication would have helped. i understand the frustration as a server when the kitchen can’t get it right. At the hour mark we had to make a decision if we wanted to stay or leave and we decided we waited this long we might as well stay & honestly wish we had not.
as far as the kitchen — there was something seriously wrong today. i can’t imagine this happens considering this place has some good reviews. (again why transparency would have helped the situation)
after almost an hour and a half after we sat we finally received our food. The egg quesadilla was missing the main ingredients- egg. it was also so soggy. they gave us two small pieces of bacon and one piece wasn’t even edible because it was barely cooked. the potato’s were okay but i did have to season them with salt and pepper because there was absolutely no seasoning on them. the biscuits and gravy were not very flavorful and the biscuits were so burnt. the gravy was described as “heavy cream” .
i was shocked for the quality of the meal as breakfast is what they specialize in. I was really excited about this place because i love to support local but unfortunately i would have had a better meal at...
Read moreVisited Griddle & Grits for the first time to eat breakfast. Let me say that before entering this cozy establishment, the amazing smell of the food before entering was so good. I was really excited about what it would taste like. I had the scrambled eggs with a sausage pattie, their breakfast potatoes with a side of grits, and a biscuit. Let me just say that while the eggs were some of the best tasting and fresh, the grits were super-delicious, as was the sausage patttie. But I have to say, to accent the grits.. the side order of their breakfast potatoes were perfection! I enjoyed every bite of everything. My husband had the Grandma's Way and really enjoyed it. I tried his pancakes.. and they were so good. We went there on a Monday, and a booth was immediately available. The aroma inside this cozy establishment was great. The service and atmosphere were friendly and accommodating. The food is fresh and one of the best tasting breakfasts I've had. We will definitely be frequenting this place again. If you’re in the area of Port Royal SC, try this. You won't be...
