The Carolina Tavern — Restaurant in Port Royal

So I had to calm down for a while before posting this. Came in today for lunch with my family and it was kinda dead, so you think I would get good service? Absolutely not. Not only did the waitress not ask what my son would like to drink, which I had to flag her down to get his drink order in, after waiting so long for our food, I had to get up and go to the bar to ask the bartender for a refill. The waitress did not come to the table except to take our order for our appetizer, took a bit to get, take our main course order, took even longer to get, and to bring the check. When my son's food got to the table the pizza was already getting cold and his fries were too. Apparently the reason my wife and I were delayed on getting our food is because the kitchen staff messed up my sandwich. Not mad at the kitchen staff cause mistakes happen, but the waitress could have been curious to tell us but no. Both times we had this girl it was absolutely terrible service and we would have to ask for her or wave her down. It sad that we were there for about an hour to just say screw it and get out food to go cause the service provided to us was that bad. At least the bartender was absolutely amazing and did not hesitate to help me get my refill. But to the kitchen staff although you "supposedly" mess up my sandwich according to the waitress I ate it at home and it was amazing so good on whoever made it. And I was told the waitress name is Alyssa. Fun little edit here she messaged my wife on Facebook trying to call us out and everything cause my wife use to work there and lied saying the cook came out to tell us about a mistake, which kinda happened, the cook saw my wife at the bar asking for our food to go and that's how the cook found out it was our food after the server came to our table dropping off my son's food. On March 2nd around 7:30pm we had a company dinner there. Myself and 2 co-workers. so a party of 3 - 2 men and 1 woman.

We were met by a waitress named Kathleen and an extremely sticky table. (she did wipe it when we asked) She was very loud and obnoxious. She said a word that starts with F and rhymes with truck 3-7 times? Insulted me, called the other guy a woman and kept referring to him as a her. Extremely rude. Very slow in taking our order, she was more concerned in trying to be funny. Told us how many drinks we were getting, then brought them when we all had half our drinks left. To be clear - we did not order the 2nd round.

The food was mediocre at best. 2 of us ordered the BBQ plate. some of the BBQ was hard as rocks, the onion rings and coleslaw had no flavor.

Needless to say we got nothing accomplished due to Cathleen, The food was blah and a $105.11 bill to have this experience.

I did not speak to the manger because according to Kathleen she was the manager. She told us good luck trying to get her in trouble.

I own 2 restaurants so I am sorry for this review. I emailed the "Home Office" of The Carolina Tavern this morning. As of 4:07pm March 3rd no reply. I am thankful she doesn't work for me. I would not tolerate swearing or insulting customers. Apparently The Carolina Tavern has a very different business model than mine.

Stopped going there years ago when they were in turmoil. Family tried again but not same. I had a beer and mess of pickles that were quite ok. Will give it a food try again because it was good back when. Will see. There again: food is good and active bar. Bathrooms are really bad. Wife resists coming again because her bathroom is worst ever. I have to admit that the men's should not be accepted by inspectors. Not been well cleaned in years. Again food is good but is the kitchen as gross as bathrooms. There must be alot of customers who do not return. Damn you! We b/4 would go to Carolina regularly but we were forced to basically stop because of your bathrooms and like this time your knife and forks still had food on them from previous guests. Now my wife says says Hell No to Carolina Tavern. You need a smack down! Food is very good. Went other day. Ordered steak. Worst quality steak that I can remember ever. Could not penetrate it with a fork. I think not beef, maybe imported, reminded me of Water Buffalo. No fat -NONE. Advised bar tender at end (did not eat it) and immature child blamed me, said I should have told at beginning. I did not ask for credit but she did volunteered to take off bill. Then she spent rest of time having a quiet tantrum. How they can allow a supplier to pass off such bad quality to them...
