I was expecting more of an English-style fish and chips experience when I walked in the door, but one look at the menu told me I was going to be in for a different ride. And not in a bad way! Sure, cod was on the menu. But tilapia, salmon, catfish, and basa are also on the menu. 2-4 piece baskets are available, and also an on-a-stick option too.
I ordered the 4pc basa basket, with potato salad, and a Coke. I had never had Basa, so I was excited to try it. Soda is all in cans, and when I grabbed mine it wasn't very cold, but it wasn't room temp so that was fine with me.
The food took about ten to fifteen minutes, as there was only one lady working and I had one order in front of mine, and despite my being given a number the last brought it out to me at the table, and then when requested brought me a bottle of tartar. Excellent service.
The first thing I noticed were the four good sized pieces, likely fillets, of fish, in a southern-style breading, I think it's called New Orleans style. I saw the good portion of potato salad next, and the surprise coleslaw after that. Then I noticed there were no fries, which upon review I probably would have gotten if I'd not ordered the potato salad. Oh well.
My first bite of the fish I'm still salivating over, now 12 hours later. Tender, flakey, yet melted in my mouth, with the crunch of the breading... I practically inhaled the first half of the fillet before adding tartar. Maybe it's the breading, or the fish, but even with a generous dose of tartar I could barely taste it.
The potato salad was very good. I'd daresay homemade, and very straightforward on the recipe if so. It would be a celebrated addition to any summer bbq. The coleslaw was fresh, but to me lacked both seasoning (salt) and the hint of sweetness I find in almost all of my favorite slaws.
All told, I enjoyed my lunch, and I'll definitely be back for more, since I still have more fish...
Read moreI love the place and even more so the food the problem is actually the staff there beyond rude and unprofessional and leave a lot to be desired when speaking to customers when the owner is there its always great he's so considerate and leaves me feeling like I can't wait to come back but when hes not present its a complete mess I don't know what the name is of the female and dark skinned male that are usually there together but they do not need to work anything customer service like ever there abrupt rude snappish and have horrible communication. today I actually had my ticket #53 and was waiting for my order to go (that I traveled from gresham for) when the lady loudly stated who has the the cat fish nuggets no one else stood up and it was part of my order so I told her it might be mine in which she dropped it on to the table and walked away I calmly sat back down as this was only part of my order a man came out next asking who has ticket #52 I which no one stood up and the people at my table looked confused so I asked him what is the order for 52 this man had the nerve to tell me if you don't have the ticket it doesn't matter and walked away I was very confused but just went with the flow only to find out that the bag of food that the lady had given me 10 mins earlier wasn't even mine and that my complete meal was now ready smh this place is awesome when the correct management is there but otherwise I see myself finding other places to go not as delicious but more friendly and...
Read moreTrying to support more local black owned business and saw this spot was one of the most popular fish & chip spots in the area. Called 30 minutes ahead to place a pick up order, when I got there my food was not ready and I was told it’d be out soon. I wait patiently for a few minutes and a group of 3 walks in and places an order for dine in. Not more than 10 minutes later they’re getting their food brought to their table and I’m still waiting while more people start to come in. There are a few of us waiting at this point so after 15 minutes I go and ask them when it’ll be ready. Again I was told that it’d be out soon. I wait another 10 minutes and am starting to get noticeably impatient and just start standing by the front of the register watching them since nobody else had ordered anything for a while. The older man in charge that night saw me and told the two other younger workers to get my food ready and it came out in 3 minutes which I very much appreciated but I haven’t been back, nobody likes their time being wasted especially if I’m going to order ah as, I might as well have just ordered when I got there and maybe it would’ve come out quicker.
Got the 3 piece catfish basket with a side of Mac and cheese and honestly the fish was mostly breading, kinda like a fried pork rind with very minimal meat as the catfish pieces were very thin before being fried. Mac and cheese was good but a little cold. Love eating soul food but you gotta give a sh$t about the people who want...
