Lovely dark wood and candle light ambiance. Very attentive but not intrusive service. Interesting tasty cocktails and fantastic safe driving policy: if you feel your friend is too drunk to drive, let the staff know and the will call a cab and pay for it!!! They have outdoor seating and left the front door open for plenty of clean air circulation inside. Only 2 reasons I didn't give 5 stars... 1. Caprese salad was not on the fall menu because they consider it "seasonal" 2. We were freezing due to the open door even though we were sat far back from the front. Some sort of extra heating would have been appreciated..but maybe not possible so it ok. I would definitely return again. Even though it wasn't caprese, the Sapphire house salad was excellent!! Perfect ratio of dressing to salad and fresh ingredients.

@teresabliving We arrived at 5 and were told it was a 45 minute wait, then we waited an hour and a half. It was unfortunate but not the fault of the restaurant. People were lingering far after service. I know many folks haven't seen each other for a while but I felt bad for the restaurant. Their livelihood is 12 tables right now and hope people realize that when going out at this time. I think we will need to rethink dining out and it's impact during these extended stressful times. Regardless, our service was excellent. The bourbon cocktail Backhander was so good I will go back for just that. We then had several appetizers, the Chicken Liver Mousse and the dates were my favorite.

Hands DOWN the best cocktail bar in Portland and it's not even close! The food does not disappoint either! I'm stuffed!! These are the Aquarian on the left (Mezcal, Campari, lime, passionfruit, red tea syrup. Rock.) and the Dad’s Tai Tai on the right (Funky rums, pastis, root beer-oat orgeat, lime. Rocks). Both FANTASTICO!!! The steak, omG.. melts in your mouth! Honestly we try something new every time we go and they are all bangers! Go take a date here! Support this long-standing local (NOT-dive) swanky cocktail bar. It's a sure thing!

My wife and I went here after dinner for our 4th anniversary. It was a bit loud inside, but it was the noise of people enjoying their night. The cocktail menu was extensive. There's some more normal stuff and some absolutely crazy stuff (like a dacquari with activated charcoal in it to turn it black). We got a fruity drink and a harder drink to share, as well as a little platter with bread, cheese, fruit and nuts. The harder drink was a custom creation from the bartender because we couldn't decide what to get. It was absolutely delicious, and the rest of our fare wasn't far behind it.

But what really makes the Sapphire Hotel special to me though was the relaxed yet romantic atmosphere. Little things that are hard to describe but make an impact together. That along with the friendly service made me sure I wanted to give it a good review. What bought it it's fifth star though was the attached sign I found in the bathroom. As a paramedic who sees first hand what drunk drivers can do, I really appreciate a bar taking that level of responsibility. I made sure to donate to it on the way out.

Overall, a near-perfect experience. I can't recommend it enough. Go there, be merry, enjoy a drink and a snack, and if you can, give them a dollar or two for their safer...

my partner and i invited our guest out to walk one evening and we came across this hotel serving dinner to non-guests and guests alike. we were clear with them that we would not be staying a night, as we had already fit our own home into a temporary hotel for our guest (see first sentence). they were able to oblige our needs and were even willing to seat us outside of the establishment in the heat. as luck would have it, we have all lived in warmer climates and are well-conditioned to handle such temperatures. having said that, we ordered the mac and cheese, polenta fries, salmon cakes and salad. i might be forgetting some of our order, but i'd prefer not to make any assumptions. i do recall that we had cocktails with names that might have confused or misled. the tastes of them did lead me to gaze north, to the sky, and think "wow, this taste good!" as luck would have it, we were the only diners on the patio, so no one noticed me when i looked up and thought, "wow, this...

A great spot! The drinks were awesome (I highly recommend the Mezcal/pineapple drink!) and the food was decent! We got the pomodoro pasta, the beet burger and the polenta fries. The polenta Fries we’re awesome—I asked for the aioli on the side to dip because I didn’t care for the red sauce to dip them in, but they were tasty. The other two dishes were good—nothing super spectacular, but fine! The pasta had decent flavor although a touch boring overall. The burger had good flavor, but fell apart really easily. I think it’s because they make them in house—which is a big positive! The ambience and atmosphere were GREAT though. Very cozy, pretty dark, very comfortable. If the atmosphere and drinks weren’t how they were, I would have felt like I overpaid for pasta I could have made at home. But alas, it was a great overall experience and not overpriced. 4 stars (would have been 5 if the food was a...
