Myself and a friend visited Portland as tourists one a Tuesday. As we were walking about our hotel looking for food, we saw the bar energetically advertising karaoke. We went in to inquire about the karaoke. The owner flatly said that it was only available on the weekend. Thinking his deadpan and brusque response was due to some quirk of his personality, I politely told him we'd return on Friday. As we were walking out the door, he oddly demanded "can I help you?" To which I replied "well, you have answered our question, that's all we wanted." He began to rant at the top of his lungs that if we were there to sell him something to get out and never return.
