I can't say enough good things about this place. It's a local coffee shop that feels really welcoming. The coffee is great. Everyone in our family has a drink they like from there. The staff are so wonderful. Everyone I have interacted with has been friendly. Some are more outgoing and proactive than others but it really feels like they all care about your experience and are very responsive to any questions or requests.
They have a cute little kids play section and a selection of games. The space invites you to hang out. It's bright and comfortable.
I would estimate the total inside seating capacity around 20. It is pretty small, but every time I've been there seats are available. Most people hang out to finish their drinks and then leave. There is also seating out back that is nice on a warm day.
Accessibility - This issue is important to me and was the first question I asked on my first visit. They have a wheelchair accessible entrance in the back (in from the back patio). To get to the back sometimes the big gate is open. If not, there is a passage between the buildings right next to the entrance. The parking is VERY limited so having the space to transfer in and out of the car could be an issue depending on your comfort level with traffic. It's not a busy road so that makes it a little better. One could probably call ahead and ask about parking in the back to give you enough space but I have never tried it. They generally try to be accommodating. There is a small (2-3 inches) step down into the main seating area inside, but they have a rubber ramp there that makes it relatively smooth. This addition is really thoughtful. Most places would not have considered this detail. Most of the chairs are easily movable so someone in a wheelchair can pull right up to the table. There are two armchairs that one could transfer into if they wanted. There is enough space around them to make...
Read moreWhen the news broke in our local community Facebook group of a new coffee shop opening nearby, I viewed it as (another) sign of positive change in Parkrose. Every since moving here five years ago, I've been paying keen attention to this neighborhood's transformation; with a few outliers, most of it has been positive, and proof that things are headed, for the most part, in the right direction.
Despite being shut out on opening day due to crazy long lines and wait times, I returned a week later to grab an iced matcha and a croissant for my wife, while out running errands, and I was pleased to confirm that my initial suspicions were correct: this place is great, and a wonderful addition to the neighborhood! Fantastic beverages, excellent pastries, warm and friendly (if a little green) service, and a literal stone's throw away from our house - no more driving over to 122nd to grab her a coffee on the weekends, when Barista Brew is closed!
With plenty of seating (indoor and outdoor, including a surprisingly large patio/paved lot, perfect for seasonal events, when the weather cooperates), a small play place for the littles, and all the perks (get it?!) mentioned above, Parkrose Coffee Shop is everything this neglected part of Portland needs more of, and more! Welcome to the...
Read moreThis place is such a fantastic addition to the neighborhood! Check out their specials sign, by the register! Today, I tried the Mexican orange mocha special - spicy + delicious! I ran out of coffee at home and was so glad I could grab a great cup of coffee in minutes. I’ve been here numerous times and all the pastries and drinks are great. The service is always very nice, but expect to wait longer than usual for an espresso bar drink. It might take longer than Starbucks, but the flavor will definitely be worth it! We’ve tried chai, matcha, and espresso drinks - they are all great — nice flavor and not overly sweet! Today I noticed some yummy looking chia puddings in the grab ‘n go fridge - made with coconut yogurt… will have to give those a try! I haven’t sat inside yet, but it’s a nice space...
