I used to love this place as it has a really interesting outdoor seating area great coffee, and interesting vibe but the owner of this place I have watched verbally abuse her employees and it’s disgusting. I remember going in one day and watching one of the baristas look like she was noticeably afraid of her employer like she was walking on eggshells and it was very odd and noticeable. I thought this lady might’ve been stressed out to work there. A few weeks later, I was going by this place as I live nearby and I saw this owner of this coffee shop, screaming at the top of her lungs in the face of this same barista. Just verbally ripping into her verbally, abusing her something is wrong with that lady. Anytime I’m around that owner of this shop. I get the icky feeling. I’ve watched her scream at the top of her lungs in the face of someone who was just trying to do their best working for her. Everyone is stressed lady, some of us more than others , you don’t take your stuff people…. I felt incredibly bad for that barista who appeared to be a middle-age mom type of person. I will never return to this place even though it was so close by and had an interesting unique vibe, loving small business. I will never go here again lady you need therapy to apologize to...
Read moreMy wife and I came here on our last day visiting Portland and it was the best coffee shop experience I had the entire time. I ordered a decaf latte with a scone and they warmed up the scone for me. Both were exactly what I had in mind that morning; both were exceptional.
The vibe there was incredible with all the indigenous inspired art and decor. It really gives the location purpose and grace. I love to see an indigenous presence anywhere in the United States. The outdoor seating is perfect and comfortable (there was even a back area I didn't get a good look at). Other customers were working on their computers and there was even a young couple practicing their dance techniques (while keeping nice and quiet).
Portland was an amazing trip and I WILL be coming back both to Portland and definitely to Bison Coffee for their warm and welcoming environment, people, and exceptional coffee and...
Read moreA friend hipped me to the Bison Coffee House. Imagine my surprise to learn that this was a Native American owned coffee shop in PDX!! Starbucks might just have lost one. Bison Coffee House is nestled in an area in Portland I rarely stagger into. The shop is located off NE 60th (does this neighborhood have a name like The Pearl? Alberta Arts District?)
I ate a delicious crumbly topped coffeecake and drank a tasty decaf. The clerk/owner (??) was pleasant enough. The huge bison on the wall sparked me and my friend's curiosity. Wasn't bison just another way to say buffalo? My friend whipped out her Ipad and Googled. There are actually many differences between a bison and buffalo. The most noticeable feature is that the bison tends to have smaller horns than a buffalo. Ya see how you learn something new everyday!! Thanks Bison Coffee House.
