Here are the reasons why I will come back and take friends here: the bartender was friendly and we had a great time talking about card games and the movies playing, the food was really good, and the atmosphere was homey.
We ordered burgers and upgraded to fries from the bag of chips (thankful it was only a $1 for fries). The PB&J burger was great! They asked if medium was okay, and I asked for medium well instead. Next time I go back I’ll stick with medium; nothing they did wrong it’s just my preference and I appreciate that they asked. It was a thicker patty and ended up being just a tad too dry for me. Truthfully, I usually order smash burgers so I never really think about medium vs medium well anymore. The bacon on the burger was thicker cut and good quality. There was also bacon jam, pickles, and peanut butter on this bad boy and the combination resulted in pure bliss.
Now, let’s get into the fries…The fries had a nice seasoning, texture, and temperature- they were light and crispy without being shoestring style or overly dense. The ranch dipping sauce tasted like it’s made in house and also had an excellent flavor and texture.
I ordered lemonade and thought it was better than most places- it also seemed to be made in house, but I could be wrong. I would definitely order it again though.
The atmosphere…90’s movies playing without sound, a collection of handmade paintings, and music similar to what I listen to at home (and at a reasonable volume 🙏🏽 ). So now that you can gauge my age, I guess that’s fine. Anyways, it wasn’t too busy and I have no idea what it’s like here during peak times- probably loud enough to make me wish I was at home.
So glad this place is walkable. We moved into the neighborhood last summer and I am so glad I FINALLY tried C-Bar. I’d like to try the brunch menu sometime or come...
Read morefantastic food. Terrible customer service. Was there with two other friends in a booth. We ask for the checkS and the bartender brings us everything on one bill. When we start to ask her if we can split it she walks off saying “it’s pretty much divided into thirds, so if you can’t figure that out...”. It definitely wasn’t divided into thirds evenly and for her to just assume everybody has cash on them is ridiculous. We did nothing to instigate the rude behavior but we shrug it off and wait for her to come back around which takes about 7 more minutes. Then we ask her if we can split it up how we ordered and even walked her through what each of us had. She then remarks “it’s basic math” while obviously irritated. Then she brings the checks and they weren’t even right. We did nothing to deserve the attitude. I’m in the service industry so I know about bad patrons. Maybe she was having a bad night, but I did not go there to be treated like a trouble child in grade school. We gave her a total of a $6-7 dollar tip, but in hindsight wish I had just walked back to the kitchen and given the cooks the tip....
Read moreHighly recommend, but review cons so you aren't surprised about the mushroom gravy (carrots & celery in it) & collard greens (cooked w/bacon) like we were. Now we know these things, the next visit will be even higher rated! Pros: Great atmosphere, killer pinball room, solid beer & cider options, great prices for high quality food, solid happy hour offerings.
Cons: The poutine's mushroom gravy includes diced carrots (offsets the black pepper spiciness well!) and celery (unpleasant surprise & I like celery but not in my poutine gravy). Collard greens have bacon cooked in them, this is great if you eat bacon/pork but not if you don't and if the person you're with doesn't eat cooked greens. *The waitstaff didn't know the collards were cooked w/bacon in them beforehand, when the person learned - the info wasn't shared w/us until after the order was put in/just before the food was served, had we known we would have ordered the veggie poutine w/the kale-greens option on the side (for me to make a mini veggie poutine & my SO to enjoy poutine sans greens raw...
