Wow. Just Wow. We've been going to Campagna for a while and getting apps and drinks at the bar, always really good. They have great wings! Have stopped often as an after work treat. We had a rare day off together and wanted to do a nice dinner out. I was reading the local River east paper and saw an ad for a five course meal for $30, and thought they accidentally reprinted something from the 1990's. We went early on a Tuesday, wondering what a nice five course meal could possibly be like for that price. We were both amazed at the fantastic quality of everything. This is a family owned place, and that's how they make you feel. We ordered a bottle of nice California Cabernet from a respectable wine list. Worth noting, that $50 bottle is generally $65 at most other restaurants. Appetizers: Zupa di Mussels, generous portion of tender, melt in your mouth mussels in a delicious white wine broth with fresh garlic. They brought toasted bread for dipping, but the house bread worked great too! My wife had the Stuffed Mushrooms that were awesome! We both had penne a la vodka for the pasta course, delivered piping hot with tender asparagus and sun-dried tomatoes, and absolutely delicious. We realized at this point, that we should have just opted for the plate charge to share one meal, as we could have left satisfied then. Our server rightly suggested just taking the salads to go, and going right to the entrees. I had Chicken Parmigiana, crisp outside, tender inside, and amazing marinara sauce. The Chicken Marsala was awesome, I had a few bites and was very impressed. We split one chocolate cake dessert, and they packed our second dessert to go. Maybe I should review their leftover penne a la vodka, salad, chicken marsala tomorrow. (I think we took home more than we actually ate there!) I suspect their leftovers will be a better meal than some other meals We've had out lately at other places. This is no longer just a place for us to get apps at the bar. Absolutely fantastic dinner. First rate. Family run, and clearly run with pride. No surprise they are busy on a Tuesday. Thank...
Read moreWent here with family for Easter. There were 30+ of us and we made reservations more than a month in advance. They put us all the way in the back against the wall at 2 separate tables (understandable). Some of us were asked about drinks and others the waitress did not even bother. She didn't tell everyone the specials unless she stood at the end of 2- 10 foot tables and expected everyone to hear her which was nearly impossible because the entire room was filled with other guests at other tables. I got stuffed sole and it was definitely from frozen. Their meatballs were also frozen meatballs. And being at an Italian restaurant you would expect home made meatballs. The entrees were hit or miss. Someone had beef short ribs and raved about it but the mashed potatoes definitely tasted like they were from a powdered box. They were completely tasteless. Not very kids friendly. They used a plastic to go cup that you would get salads or soup from a Chinese restaurant from as their "plastic kids cup" it was a great laugh though. To top it off, they had a bowl of chocolate eggs at the entrance. Not sure what happened to them but some chocolate was exposed and was a grayish color. My brother went to grab one until he noticed the appearance and backed away. One of the workers saw him do this and said "oh they are fine they just melted and rehardened." Ummm no thank you. If you go here with a lot of people they refuse to split the bill and give you a bill for the whole table and you have to figure it out. Im not sure if they just didn't want to split it up or that's how they...
Read moreI was there for an early mother's day dinner, and ordered from the holiday menu. The food was decent, but I have got to be honest... I got shrimp and scallops a la vodka and they left the tails on the shrimp. In my opinion, if a dish isn't meant to be eaten with your hands, the tails should be removed prior to being served. The pasta was so-so, I don't know that it was made in-house. At $32, I'm not sure if my expectations for house made pasta are inline with the price of the dish. That being said, the scallops were perfectly cooked!
Portion size was very generous, absolutely no complaints there.
Service was fine, though the server took the drink menu from the table as we were seated and we had to ask for it back. Not sure what that was all about, but not a big deal.
For our party of six, two four-tops were pushed together with three people seated on either long side. Normally, I'm totally fine with this, but the tables weren't level and a bit wobbly, so the tabletops weren't flush with one another. This made dining for those seated in the middle of the long side a little awkward.
Overall, I'd eat there again. I wasn't displeased, but also not impressed. One of those places where I'd need another experience to have a more...
