The New Checkered Flag Tavern — Restaurant in Portland

This is a nice cozy bar with good beer on tap and a great patio. The place could easily be a 4 to 5 star joint if it were running like it should. On our first visit to the Checkered flag, we had some beers and enjoyed ourselves quite a bit. On the way out, we took a little tour of their patio (nice), and we were told they had all the games on Sunday Ticket every Sunday (all their advertising says the same). We're huge fans of a specific NFL franchise that is rarely on our local broadcasts, so we went to the Checkered Flag at 10am for a Sunday NFL brunch and to watch our team in the last game of the season. Well, when we arrived, it was disappointing to say the least. All the TV's were off and the patio was ice-cold. When we asked if we could have a game turned on, the bartender (and only employee present) seemed distraught that we wanted to watch a game on Sunday Ticket because she didn't know how to use it. 10 to 15 minutes later, the porch was still cold, the TV is still blank and says "no input", and the bartender is gone making drinks for other customers. We decided to leave because we were missing the game, it was cold, we hadn't even ordered drinks and it looked like that wasn't going to change anytime soon... Overall, we really want to like this place, the owner has put a lot of effort into making it a nice bar. I write this in the hopes that next season, if they elect to have NFL games on Sunday mornings, that they open earlier, maybe have another employee who knows what they're doing, and get the place set up properly for football fans, so that they don't lose more business like they...

Every time I go to the checkered flag the bartenders are really nice and make me feel comfortable and welcome.the music is always playing and the people there are just regular people not drug addicts or homeless people .no offense to anyone experiencing those 2 things.i help people when ever I see a need I try to help.but at a bar I go to just unwind ,relax and forget about my problems for a few minutes so I dont want anyone asking me for money or a cigarette ya know.thats how the bar used to be I'm glad it's not like that any more no one is in parking lot shooting up .etc.ive seen that there before. I'm a frequent customer at the checkered flag. I can't emphasize how much I enjoy the flag. From the impeccable cleanliness, professional service, food, music or a great game of video lottery. Most recently I decided to celebrate my birthday at the checkered flag. The experience was more than I would have ever imagined.Some of my close friends and family members have decided the flag would be their choice for such occasions.Safety ranks high with me when I want to simply have a great time. Their weekly food menu in my opinion, hands down, can't be beat. Just as the outstanding fun play on their jello shots. Twice a month you can enjoy a great night of karaoke as well.
