Du's Grill — Restaurant in Portland

So, this would have been a 1 star review, except that I got great service. The owner is remarkably welcoming and is always smiling. Unfortunately, great service doesn't make up for mediocre food. I had the beef and chicken teriyaki combo, and I couldn't even rat the beef. The chicken was okay, but it came with basically no sauce on it. At least they have a bottle of teriyaki on every table. I went there because the reviews were outstanding. I'm not sure if we were talking about the same restaurant or what. The best way I can describe it is the beef was like someone had rehydrated teriyaki beef jerky and warmed it up. Yes it was fairly tender, but it was so salty and the teriyaki was so concentrated that after a couple of bites, I was starting to feel I'll. The salad dressing is similar to the creamy dressing you get at most teriyaki places, only with about 5 times as much vinegar. It was so sour that I couldn't finish my salad either. So of the. Chicken and bee combo, of the 4 items on the plate, I could only stomach the chicken and the rice. Not even being able to eat half of the food on the plate is just not a good ratio. If the atmosphere in the restaurant was better, I might have given one more star, but it's just a kinda grungy hole in the wall place with some chairs and tables thrown in. Your basically sitting in a fish bowl, surrounded by windows, with a stained tile floor and the standard wooden chairs you'd find in a middle school. I used to absolutely love coming here both for the food and the almost unbelievably efficient (not to mention friendly) service. But the last two times I've been here - once a couple of months ago and once just now - have been a disaster. The first time the woman at the counter had some trouble taking my order, and then I had to inexplicably wait for nearly half an hour even though there were only a few people ahead of me.

Then tonight, the guy taking orders was so incompetent that I almost gave up and walked out. He was unable to understand the simplest request (such as to add an extra portion of chicken) and after about 5 attempts to explain what I wanted, I almost just gave up and walked out. And even though I was clearly getting frustrated, I received no apology or even an explanation as to what the difficulty was. It was absolutely surreal.

Unfortunately the food also seems to have suffered as much as the customer service. On both of these recent visits, the chicken was dry and without much flavor except for a weird detergent-like after-taste. I don't know if the restaurant has actually changed hands or they've just made some really poor hiring choices, but this is not the restaurant it...

Terribly disappointed with the food and especially the customer service 😥 I've been coming here for years 15-20 years and the last couple times the people working there are super rude I called in my order they said 15 min I show up 4pm the restaurant says online says they are open till 845 pm but when I come the front doors are locked there are 3 workers justtimg on the cashier counter visiting they look at me dont come to the door nothing I stand out there for 30 min while they are sitting there visiting I finally call and say I am standing out in the front door waiting to pick up my food I ordered ocer 45min ago they just say ok and hang up they still sitting there visiting for another 10 min before they come to the door hand me my food I ask them are they closed early or something he rudely says I don't know I say what time do you close today he again says I don't know but very rudely my food I ordered was very cold I ordered food for my whole family I've never received bad customer service here its always been amazing and the good has always been a amazing what a disappointment I don't know if you're changing owners or what but I do not recommend going here...
