Fairlane Coffee has introduced me to the greatest coffee roaster in the world: Onyx. Which is almost sacrilegious to say, because they're based in Rogers, Arkansas. And when I first learned that's where their beans were coming from, it raised an eyebrow. But then I had the coffee and - oh my god. I would import these beans from Timbuktu if I had to. What is it about Onyx? Well, first of all they are meticulously sourcing the raw materials from high quality, shade grown, fair trade sites. Which, is the correct place to start although admittedly not particularly unique, especially when you live in Portland Oregon. However, from there, Onyx processes their beans in absolutely unique ways. Natural washes, anaerobic fermentations, carbonic maceration, and a number of other techniques that yield a coffee that captures the freshness of the fruit character inherent in the coffee cherries. The beans are then very lightly roasted to preserve the natural flavors, and as to avoid the burnt flavors of over-roasting. This puts a cup of very high-toned, fresh, and utterly intoxicating coffee in your cup. Fairlane finishes the job with a cute cozy space, friendly staff, quality espresso extraction, skillful latte crafting, pour overs for maximum appreciation of the beans, and delicious...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI left Fairline Coffee Store incredibly pleased after my recent visit and I'd like to share my experience with you. I highly recommend trying the Avo+ Chevre Toast, which was hands down the most delicious avocado toast I've ever had in Portland. The perfect combination of avocado and goat cheese will surely appeal to your palate. Additionally, Fairline Coffee's latte options are among my favorites. They always serve the freshest and most delicious coffees.
However, what made my experience even more special was the warm and friendly approach of the staff. I'd like to give a special thanks to Smenda and Tomas; I was truly impressed with the service they provided today. They are always cheerful and hospitable. It's truly commendable that they maintain such a level of service.
The owner of this shop is truly fortunate to have such an amazing team. The staff goes above and beyond to provide visitors with an excellent experience. Fairline Coffee Store has become one of my favorite coffee shops in Portland. I definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've spent many a morning at Fairlane Coffee, and although it's not a bad spot, and the coffee is good, it has never been on my list of favorite places to start my day. Like I said, I like the coffee, and the baked goods are good, but the ambience is lacking in my opinion. It'a nice enough building, but feels a little stark, it just doesn't have that cozy feel that I prefer. There aren't many seating options other than hard chairs, either at the window bar, the regular tables, or the big table in the center of the room. And while there are a couple of cool baristas, there are also a couple who seem just a little too cool in their own minds if you get what I mean. And to me, unless the coffee and eats in a place are either amazingly good, or spectacularly awful, then the ambience and the attitude of the staff are the things that are going to make me want to either come back or decide to go elsewhere.
So that's where I'm at with it. I give it 4 stars, it's not a bad place but it's not gonna be a favorite...
