Ishtar Gate — Restaurant in Portland

Very disappointed. I've had food from Ishtar Gate in the past and the food is good, but unfortunately the service is extremely poor and I won't be going back.

I placed an order through Uber Eats for pick up. I recieved notification from the app that my order was ready to be picked up, and when I arrived 15 mins later there were 3 people inside. I walked up to the cashier and told them my name and said I was there to pick up an order. The employee said there were people ahead of me and that there's a wait. I apologized and said I'm sorry I thought my order was ready since I recieved the notice.

20 minutes later none of the other 3 people waiting recieved their food so I continued to wait. After an additional 20 minutes passed (40 mins total) I was going to just cancel my order through the app but then I suddenly recieved an email from Uber Eats that my order had been "delivered" even though I was still waiting.

The employee then informed me and the remaining customer still waiting what orders they were working on, which didn't include mine. I said I had an order from Uber Eats under my name and told them the items I ordered. They then said they didn't show that order. I told them I also just received an email saying my order was delivered even though I was right there and didn't receive the food. I attempted to show them the receipt but they repeated they didn't see my order and they began cooking again, ignoring me.

I waited for a minute since I wasn't sure if they were preparing the items I mentioned, and then asked if they were also preparing my order.

They went back to the cash register and asked my name and I repeated it and the items I ordered and then they realized that I wasn't an Uber Eats delivery driver but was the actual customer and they were then able to locate my order that I placed for pick up.

They said they'd put it together now (even though according to the app it was ready before I even arrived and according to the email it had been "delivered").

20 minutes later for a total of 1 hr I recieved my food.

Again good food, but VERY bad service. Not...

Hubby & I wanted Middle Eastern food last Friday night. Got the Lamb & Chicken schwarma plates, Foul Madamas, Lebne, Tabouli, Hummus, & Baba Ganoush. I checked the ingredients carefully on their menu through Grub Hub. All regular, normal ingredients listed. When the food got to me, it was an hour late. To be fair, everything but the schwarma plates were good. The schwarma plates were COVERED in Sriracha sauce, and some other orangey hot sauce! The salads were shredded carrots soaked in jalapeno juice and had sliced jalapenos in it also. My husband ended up throwing his lamb schwarma away because he cannot eat that level of spicy. Thank goodness for the lebne - I was able to kill some of the heat on my chicken schwarma with it. I called the restaurant and complained. They told me that I should have told them "no hot sauce". I pointed out that if it had been listed on the menu description, I certainly would have done just that - BUT IT WAS NOT. We were told they'd make us new plates if we came in again. Not going to happen. We will definitely never order...

I've been here more times than i cant remember and i love the food. The wait time is not too bad especialy since you see the food prepared infront of you and make conversation with the employee at the same time. Pricing: you definetly get what you pay for for the gyro's. The cleanliness of the establishment is so, so about what you'd see at a well kept MC donald's which pleased me quite a bit the only thing keeping me from giving a fifth star is the taste of the food a lot of things are alright but thats it. Just alright. The portions are great on everything except the meat, you'll come to find you wish you wouldve ordered triple the regular serving of meat but honestly large servings are just an American thing so foreigners usually dont meet the same standards in portions that typical american food might.
