This is a review of the food when ordered for delivery via 2DineIn, it's possible it's better when you're there in person.
I don't normally write reviews, but this was a particularly bad meal, and I was especially surprised having seen all the good feedback here.
We ordered a gyro plate, a falafel sandwich, and a variety of salads/mezze. All of the mezze except the shirazi had clearly been sitting in a fridge for multiple days—the olive oil on top of the labneh and in the tabouleh was hardened from sitting in the fridge, the parsley in the tabouleh was a dull green instead of bright and fresh, the dolmas were rock hard, and the tabouleh had that slightly acidic, fermented taste of having sat around for several days.
The gyro sandwich was dry and had no tzatziki on it, as ordered. The gyro platter (shown here) cost a whopping $20 on 2DineIn (that's a delivery rate, it's $2 cheaper in store) and came with some inoffensive but not especially flavorful meat, tomatoes and romaine with a lemon wedge, a TON of rice, fries, a half-dollar-size piece of baklava, baba ghanoush, and toum (garlic whip). There was no option to choose the accompaniment, and I'm allergic to eggplant, so much of this platter went to waste, which was disappointing. The garlic whip tasted more like plain mayo and lacked the fresh, pungent garlic flavor of true toum. The fries were the best item we got, perhaps because they were the only thing that actually tasted fresh.
As I said, it's possible the food would be better in person—I can't speak to that—but it's definitely not worth ordering for...
Read moreI have been wanting to try an Iraqi restaurant after my students brought me Iraqi food which was delicious. Mazzat has a great menu, very reasonably priced for the quality and quantity of food. There is a good variety to choose from. I ordered the chicken schwarma sandwich. My husband ordered the beef schwarma sandwich and falafel sandwich. While waiting we were served samples of the lentil soup. It is the most delicious soup I ever had and not made with green or brown lentils. Made with probably red lentils or possibly yellow, and so savory and delicious, I felt like this is rhe soup I would want the next time I am sick. It tasted and felt healing and comforting. We waited until we got home to try the sandwiches. Portions are very generous and every sandwich was delicious. I am a proud carnivore but if I had to choose between the beef, chicken, or falafel.... that falafel sandwich was outstanding, not dry at all, and the bread is outstanding and doesn't fall apart. The others were really great as well. Next time I hope to try the kubba. Go and say Marhaba (hi!) to Mazzat, and you'll be saying shukran...
Read moreWe recently discovered this excellent little restaurant. Our friend was visiting from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She requested the we eat at a Mediterranean restaurant, as that is not a venue she has access to back in the U.P. So we ate there that evening. And . . . tonight we ate there again.
Our food was delicious both times. The staff is affable. The place is well lit and pleasant. It will only seat about ten people, hence most patrons order food to go. The food is relatively inexpensive.
We were surprised each time when they brought an appetizer of warm, tasty lentil soup. Delicious! I’ve ordered the chicken shawarma plate both time. It comes with a heaping portion of seasoned chicken, a small salad, a dolma, tzatziki sauce, hummus, pita chips, and crispy french fries. Best of all - they include a piece of heavenly, buttery, honey-dripping baklava. Good for four or five bites. With the exception of the baklava, there were plenty of leftovers. Basically two meals.
Go Mediterranean some evening soon and give this...
