Let me start this is for anyone applying to work here. The student work done at the dental school is fantastic and this is not against the services the school provides.
I worked over at UNE for 3 years. Upon being hired they give you the regular lies " we promote from within" " we provide free school for your spouse and children" a lot of those key justifications so they don't have to pay you a proper working wage. Now. Not saying that those things are bad. But they reserve the right to deny you the education. Which happens more often than not and instead of promoting from with in they will ask you to do the job to prove yourself even if it requires a license you don't have and pay you a massively lower rate with no rate change options and then penalize you for messing up something you aren't properly trained in. Facilities management there will completely gaslight you into believing you're responsible for them trying to save a nickel.
Lets move on. Jim Irwin. The VP of facilities blamed student numbers being lower because of facilities not smiling enough at students. As some one who has worked in facilities for 15 years I can tell you. You don't randomly smile at students unless you're working on something for them. As a massive double standard because of he said this to a group of woman he would be in HR but since he said this to a group of men it's not offensive. Right?
Let's talk about the jail mentality of titles. Are you a Electrician? Are you a Steam Engineer? Guess what you aren't here and that's how they get away with paying you way less than what you're worth. It's a classic outsourcing plot created to save the company money while making the worker run around in circles. They have 3 levels of mechanics there that fall into a financial category a maintenance technician 1 -17$ to 20$, a maintenance technician 2 23$-27$ and a 3 -32-36$. How much does a master electrician make on average in the state of Maine? 45+ how much does a steam engineer make in Maine on average up to 58 a hour. Well not here folks. Here you're a maintenance technician and you only make that much. But why? Because you're expected to do " other jobs required" so you've worked 10 plus years to get your license in a form of work. But since you're shoveling sometimes we're only paying you this much. This is a ploy to attract desperate and/or unqualified workers. If you have spent your life trying to work for yourself or your family this is not a place you should go.
Health insurance - 3 years there. 3 different plans. How are you supposed to be able to afford medications for your self and your family when they keep changing plans with out informing you or asking for consent. There's not much to say about this experience other than. It just makes it hard for the worker because in June you need to reauthorize every prescription again.
Shop quality. As a maintenance technician you need a functional shop whether you're a carpenter, electrician or a plumber( side note UNE has not had a licensed plumber on site for almost 8 years in the Portland campus and refused to send anyone up from Biddeford campus to help because they were overwhelmed with work. ) so you would think a shop with ventilation, walls that aren't crumbling from water damage something bigger than a 15 by 15 room for 9 people, a place to eat lunch that isn't the same place where people are using a sanding machine, floor drains that don't produce random oil back ups. You know basic stuff. Well if you work at UNE you'll have all that and more. Oh and don't leave a coffee out. Or the cleaners will take it and bring it home and don't leave chocolate or chips in a bag or the mice will eat it or a random bird that has gotten through a broken window. When asking for improvements. The response is it's a temporary place. The state of Maine states a temporary place is between 3 and 8 months. Guess what. Those workers are going on two years in...

Read moreDO NOT USE their oral health center!! They banned us in 2022 for cancelling due to covid/being around someone who did after only a couple times, never told us until 3 years later when making appts and still holding a grudge!! They created this policy, ban us, then proceed to tell us we don’t have the right to be upset or angry!!! I guess you should all be going to your appointments when sick with covid because if you don’t and end up canceling or being sent home by the damn staff if you do try, you end up banned!!! Just disgusting !!! Considering how irresponsible and unfair that is, making patients feel like they have to choose between their health and getting banned, I wouldn’t trust how safe it is if you are a high risk patient with immune issues if they are making patients feel like they have to lie to get their teeth looked at or else! Go to a real dentist ! The staff also guarantees a 3 day response time yet when we send emails and calls over the course of a month, they get ignored yet they got the nerve when they do pick up the phone to say we are being too difficult and dismiss us even more!...
