Hurray! Finally gluten free fish and chips again. Pandemic hit and this is first eat out on picnic table at a eatery. Can not say enough in praise about the taste of this fish. Breading was so tasty. Tasted like it was fresh oil in their fryer. Drooling as I recall my visit.

Cost was a little pricey but we share our fare and that made it affordable. I'd still do it if just me. Extra for later. Large pieces. Most excellent fries. Tastes like they make them in house. Sturdy perfect sized, fried to perfection. Did I say I'm thrilled?

We bought clam chowder inside in the Market's frozen section. In a day or so it was defrosted in refrigerator. Heated in pan. Made garlic bread. I loved it. Hubs says too fishy. Noticed he cleaned his bowl.

Spring 2023. Hubs wants grilled fish, not fried with breading. That's my specialty! So, into the Portland Fish Shop I go. The person behind the counter was awesome. He helped me buy some True Cod for dinner and a couple of smoked scallops for a snack. Everything was great! We'll be back to the shop and to the fish window for more fish, fish, fish!

Update Fall 2022. Still happening. Awesome food. Nice folks. Look forward to our visit, usually only once a month because it's across town. We do other shopping close by and make a day of it. Sunny day is best. We found break in the rain. Busy this time with people sitting at the picnic tables outside under trees. They have made tables inside available for people these days.

Thanks to the people who made...

I could not be more impressed with this place!

My family and I went last night for dinner and it should have been a disaster. I was hangry and my over tired 5 year old was feeling a second wave of crazy energy, I was totally prepared to be disappointed with an all gluten free menu, after all, I can only eat gluten free and often it’s blah at best.

I shocked when right from entering, we were greeted by the friendliest and most helpful person at the counter. She walked us through all of the fish, even informed us where they were caught.

On to the food, we ordered a cod & chips and a Ling Cod fish & chips, and a clam chowder. The chowder was hearty and delicious, served piping hot and with optional oyster crackers (tho not GF). The nice lady told us that they use GF batter because it’s better and she was spot on, the GF batter was killer!! My husband who loves gluten even thought the GF batter was better, it was crispy, not too thick and delicious. Also, their house made tartar sauce was phenomenal - even our 5 year old food critic was impressed.

We will...

I have been buying fish at the Portland Fish market for four years. This is the second year in a row that I’ve purchased my fish for making cioppino at the market! Unfortunately, this year I did not look in the bag before I left the store and by the time I realized what had happened all of the crab, except for the extra one that I bought outside of the order, had a black color on it. I mean, all of it five crabs not one of them did not have this black color. Now I have been eating crab and cooking cioppino with my family my entire life. I could not use the crab that was in the brown paper bag which I should’ve checked before I left the store. When I called the store was already closed. Thank God that Safeway was open because I had to run there to get my crab! I really expected more from Portland Fish market and whoever did my order, well,...

Great local neighborhood fishmonger with a great selection of regional an international fresh fish and seafood as well as a host of seafood accoutrements and adult beverage pairings. We try to frequent the local small business as often as possible. They also smoke seafood in-house which is getting harder and harder to find - non-existent from any big chain store. They have a large selection of local and international seasonings to make American and Asian dish preparation simplified. They can also recommend a good adult beverage pairing to go with your seafood purchase. We picked up 1.5# of Ahi Tuna Steaks and a Smoked Halibut Collar (yummy)

Located in the Woodstock area of Portland with a walk up window on the side of building next to the parking lot. I ordered the halibut fish and chips lunch special with two pieces of fish. My order arrived after a short period of time. The fish was light and flakey with a light batter that enhanced the flavor. The fries were crispy and lightly salted. The lunch specials are served from 11:30AM - 2:30PM Monday - Friday. You find several beers on tap and wine by the glass on the menu. A number of different fish are offered to meet your budget. A very good place to enjoy fish and chips in Portland with prices that are a good value for seafood.

This is my go-to for the best scallops and clams in town! Always fresh! Knowledgeable staff that knows by “hiding “ the Jacobson caramels by the register, we customers will never find them. Ha! Last night we had the ling cod which was fantastic- tender , moist, delish. Tonight we’re having the humongous scallops , tomorrow I’ll go back in for a lb or so of clams, and hit the bread store on my way out for something buttery and crusty to go with! I just discovered yesterday that they keep fish broth in the freezer, so I’ll use that for the fish’s, and the scallops tonight. Thanks guys! And thanks for being open on Sundays!
