On the evening of 5-20-24 I witnessed the owner of this cart refuse to serve a biracial couple. She said twice, loud enough to hear from the tables nearby, “Cinnamon and sugar, I don’t like that.” The couple, reasonably stunned and angered, left the food cart pod entirely. Obviously, in light of this, I would not recommend supporting this Thai cart.
Additional response added here, in response to the business’s response: I witnessed an absolutely unacceptable event happen at Sila Thai. I do not know the couple that was turned away and refused service. I do not make any statements or conjectures of why this happened. I only am objectively reporting what I saw. As an aside, I have been going to this food cart regularly for years…since before it moved to the beer porch even. I previously did not have a problem with this cart or the people who run it. In fact, all of my personal interactions there were just fine. However, what I witnessed was absolutely unacceptable. The business responding with a veiled threat of “check myself before I wreck myself” and calling me a “white crusader” isn’t exactly a reasonable response. I saw what I saw, reported objectively what I saw, I didn’t make any conjectures, didn’t call anyone names. I spent hours deciding if and how to respond to what I saw. The bottom line: What I witnessed was absolutely...
Read moreSome of the best Thai food comes out of here, however I'm sad to say things have changed. Food is still great but they drastically reduced portion sizes while increasing prices (understandable) without any notice. For example I used to get the stir fry & she would load it up, but now they give a ¹/4 of what they used to with the side of rice of being half the portion which used to be included in the meal as a side. People would be more than happy to pay extra & get what they were used to getting. Switching up the portion sizes & then asking more is super shady. You've lost tons of loyal return customers because of this & most people are too nice to say so. Last time I went in there & asked for the rice to be in a separate box like they used to do she got so mad & literally yelled at me loud enough to draw attention from the rest of the food carts (she can be very loud) & I said never mind I have to think about it but she persisted until I reluctantly gave in & ordered out of pity. It hurts me to leave this negative review as I have supported this business for over 5 years & loved the food but after my several recent interactions I will no longer return especially after my last encounter where she literally yelled at me...& embarrassed me in front of...
