My Starbucks is Back I used to be a regular Starbucks customer until a few years ago. It was part of my morning ritual—ordering a venti latte with skim milk and no sugar. Despite rising inflation and the realization that I was spending thousands of dollars on Starbucks annually, it always felt like a necessity in life. But over the past few years, something changed. The Starbucks experience wasn’t the same—no consistency in taste, disappointing service, and overall frustration led me to part ways with it… until today. While traveling from New Haven, Connecticut, back home to Boston, I stopped at a Starbucks in Portland, Connecticut. My son wanted to try a cheese danish, and my wife ordered her favorite mocha frappuccino. I decided to give my go-to drink one more chance. The very first sip instantly brought back nostalgic memories of my old Starbucks experience. I felt a little emotional, realizing I had finally found that familiar taste again. I rushed to my barista, Charlie, to thank her for making such a perfect coffee. I also had a great chat with Ethan, the cashier who took my order. He explained that Starbucks has made changes—new machines, new processes, and overall improvements. Beyond the great coffee, I was impressed by the exceptional customer service and skill of the team. This experience gave me hope that Starbucks might be returning to what it once was. My son curiously asked, “Dad, what changed?” I told him it might be because of the new CEO, He then asked, “Who is he?”—which led to a fun conversation about what a CEO does. He was a little concerned, jokingly saying, “I hope nothing happens to Chipotle too!” But he was happy to enjoy his delicious cheese danish. I almost lost hope when the construction was delayed for so many years, but finally, almost out of the blue it felt, it was here! What a wonderful day to see that it was open! I've been 4 times since they opened a month ago, ranging from all different times of day, both ordering inside, as well as utilizing the drive through, which is the best drive through set up for a Starbucks I have ever seen, there is no parking lot congestion as the drive through is in a separate area from the Starbucks parking lot. The milk was steamed to perfection and was airy and thick. It was the perfect consistency and melted in my mouth the way cap foam should.
