The Daily Planet — Restaurant in Portland

So I went in today after a morning shift, I come here a lot because the food is exceptional tasteful, breakfast lunch dinner nd the bar drinks wonderful but the service I received today I will find another mom and pop family restaurant to eat at. Went in calm warm environment, a table of regulars at the front door and people scatter here and there I sat myself like usual, waited 5 mins still no one to my table, man comes in sits at the bar five mins later another man comes in with his lady at the bar, she has even greeted them and made sure they know she sees them there, me not even a good morning I will b with u shortly, another ten mins passes. By I am looking dead at the waitress at This point because she has served another round of coffee to these regulars, small time chatted , has not even circled to my table to to even give me water or a menu too look at to even search so I can b ready for when she is ready, then has poured a draft beer for the man at the bar and started serving the couple and I have yet to get a coffee or water to my table nor menu, here it is she stated it’s busy she was having a day but u don’t treat any of ur customers like this, it’s been this before and the other waiter, serve me well a prior visit than today. I traveler for in the medical profession , from Texas and have recommended this establishment to my follow travel buddies and and more and recieved this type of treatment nd level of service , I was wearing all black scarf and hat and in my green scrubs, and she went along like I was not even in the room, I will not b dining here anymore. Good food but the level of service I recieved today was so impelling and terrible I just got up and walked right out. Seated for 30 mins not even a water to quench my thirst. unexceptable when running a business nd providing a service a with open door policy to the public I have never experience this my whole two years comin here til now. I provide a service in the healthcare field nd this particular incident can b terrible to a great family restaurant with good food nd drinks with a anniversary coming up. If u recieve a service like I did today don’t spend your money with business like that, all customers are valuable. Go to a chain restaurant that is goin to stand on customer service nd core values of service. I went 6 mins away to ihop nd was greeted served in a timely manner and I had to park in the back of the restaurant. Way more people than daily planet. This was not okay and has change my whole outlook...

Very rude bartender on a Friday happy hour. Never have I ever felt so dang belittled by a bar staff to the point where I felt so inferior by my prensence. 1st, I waved the bartender because I was clearly ignored, then her response was “stop being rude and wait like the other customers.” I had to wave a second time and she said “you still need to wait…..” I didn’t know getting the bartender’s attention when the bar was NOT busy was considered rude. 2nd, when asking to sample an IPA, I get an eye roll and her saying, “you’re going to have to wait until the SMALL glasses are clean” yes she emphasized the small glasses by yelling at me that the small glasses were not clean. 5 WHOLE minutes later she then gets small glasses that were ALREADY clean from the rack and provides me the sample. I felt this was a petty action for making her work? 3rd. Asked if I could have my nachos order with toppings on the side. She literally said to me, “the cooks in the back are going to LOVE your order…….” Trying to make me feel bad about an order. She Made a HUGE deal about it by sighing and eye rolling, THEN telling the cooks in the back, “this customer wants a complicated nachos by having toppings on the side and chips naked.” The cooks shrugged their shoulders and said “ meh no problem” Never have I ever had a bartender tell me that this order was complicated. I ALWAYS order my nachos with toppings on the side and never have I ever felt so belittled. This bartender is not wanting to work and made my experience here so bad as a community member of southeast Portland. I will continually talk down about daily planet as this establishment made me feel like a inferior member of the community I live in, and I have lived right off 114th and Powell for more than 30 years. Daily planet, please reconsider the bartender that was working on Friday March 1st 2024 because they made me feel like a non member of my community in southeast Portland. Please expect a formal letter of complaint to the better business bureau for the way I was treated as a consumer in the community I am a part of. I will never promote this business to my colleagues who work in an establishment next to this bar. I have never felt so belittled in my life as a consumer, and I will ensure the BBB understands through a formal letter how this bartender has made me feel on March 1st, 2024. 06/2723 horrible srvice again says machine wouldn't take my card all lies BOLI. On 5/12/19 and on 5/13/19 the little Italian lady was so fkg rude I can't even believe her and I have Italian blood in me too. I asked for a muddled lemon water on the 5/12/19 and she said I don't have time for that I have to many customers, but I'm a customer too. 5/13/19 I walk in and ask for a muddled lemon water with four lemons she said that we are low on lemons and that I have to make the lemons last all day for customers that order drinks. I just ordered a drink. She is rude and lazy. I start off every order with water then I order my food and adult beverage. I have been coming to this dive restaurant for about ten years. On both days she lost this bar money I work three jobs so I don't have time for rude bartenders that can't handle there job or maybe she has a problem with black people with Italian blood. The owner should keep an eye on her interactions with customers no wonder there was no one in there. NO TIPS OR RECOMMENDATIONS TO EAT AT THIS PLACE. NEGATIVE RATING IF I COULD. SHE WAS HORRIBLE. The waiter at a neighborhood local spot said to me this morning..girl I had a horrible experience at the Daily Planet yesterday 6/07/19. Me and my man waited 20-30m for menus and that the same lady was rude as fk..The bartender asked her if she wanted to play trivia to use the bathroom. She said Jay was even rude too. I'm dead 😂 update: She did it again with my vodka drink today for me & my friend 3/11/23 @12:15pm & she actually forgot our drinks after paying for them, but she took my friends tip. Tina & she forgot his soda. One poker machine said call attendant & she was asked to fix the machine & she never did.
