Not service-animal friendly.
We were super excited to try this place. Menu was interesting and who doesn’t like the Viking/Scandinavian inspired comfort food.
We had a service dog (25 lb French bulldog) who sat at our feet the entire time and didn’t make a sound. When my wife and kids took a bathroom break before we left, the lady asked me to leave because I didn’t clear the service dog with management first.
She said it was against the law in Portland and since it was such a small space I should have checked first (it’s not illegal in Portland to bring a service animal into anywhere humans can go…heck you can have a miniature horse as a service animal). Before I left, I pointed out she was a service dog and the lady even remarked that the dog had ‘service dog in training’ signage on her harness, before reiterating that “I should have let management know as a FYI”.
Not a way that I would treat someone who ordered nearly the entire menu for lunch!
Such a shame to see a shop treat patrons this way. Feels very intentional, as she noted the dog was in here early but waited until we had cleared our plates before giving us the boot. She could have said nothing and we were out some two minutes later with a decent experience, but instead ensured we will...
Read moreI recently went in and bought three Viking Soul Food tshirts and a chocolate bar. EDIT 12/17/24 💍🎁I bought two of the shirts as a belated wedding gift to friends on the east coast. My friend LOVED 💕 them. It only took me a year to find the perfect gift for someone who has everything. I added they’s comment and photo of the shirt in my photos.
🎂 I bought the dark chocolate as a birthday gift for someone in my community. The response on that was it was very tasty. 🎂 If you’re looking for a unique experience I would recommend coming here. The food has to be good as well. The place was packed when I was in there. 💍🎁🎂
🌸 Free Parking was easy to find. 🌸 Store was very busy but orders were getting out first. As a former waitress, I was impressed by what I saw. 🌸 I loved the uniqueness of this store. My friend got married and what do you buy someone who has everything? The same for Christmas presents.
I love the location of Viking Soul Food being in Woodstock, it’s a 5 minute drive from Ahola, who can make this up?
This is one of my favorite neighborhoods in...
Read moreI’ve been a customer since this was a food cart on Belmont and have always been happy with the service. Not so much recently. I ordered a lefse wrap and while it was being made, I saw the cook place a rag directly on top of the open food. It sat there for a while and then she proceeded to take the rag off and stick it under her armpit, roll the lefse up, package it and hand it to me. I told her I was uncomfortable eating food that had a dirty rag sitting on it. She apologized and made me a new wrap but also said the rag was clean. Ahem, I saw her put it under her arm pit and wipe the counter with it. Completely grossed out. I should’ve asked for my money back but was out of sorts after seeing that and I ended up tossing the $14 wrap out as I thought more and more about the lack of hygiene. I don’t like leaving bad reviews for places I try to support...
