Wok Shop Kitchen — Restaurant in Portland

I’ve gave this place 2 chances. Basically they give you huge portions but the flavor either isn’t there or odd/strange.

Chicken teriyaki

Huge portion, but the chicken and the sauce they use does not have a good flavor. Idk if they are making their own sauce and not trying it, but it has a very strange, odd bad flavor. They give you a lot of rice and veggies which I like. Large amount of chicken too, it just tastes really odd

Stir fry fried rice with chicken

Again, good portion on rice and chicken. However, it has no flavor. You are eating the food, but it doesn’t taste like anything. The fried rice only has green onion, egg and rice. Nothing else. I got no green onion and the fried rice (just egg and rice) has no flavor. You can tell you are eating rice, however it is flavorless. Reminds me of when I had Covid 19 and lost my sense of taste. Need to change your recipe asap ! Try adding some peas at least or something, and more flavor. The chicken also has no flavor, it is like they just cooked up some chicken thigh but added nothing to flavor it. I can’t identify any seasoning or flavor, it’s just plain chicken.

Just having some garlic in your kitchen would do some wonders for starters !

Like I said, huge portions but flavor is seriously lacking.

You can easily split 1 meal between 2 people.

Maybe I’m just ordering the wrong menu items ?

Edit: check how much oil is at the bottom ! Literally a pool, and you can feel it on your lips ! Free...

I am very thankful my girlfriend persuaded me to try Wok Shop Kitchen. I was hesitant at first based off the location and I already has a few spots I liked to dine. I also thought it was a cooking utensil store for a while... (Wok Shop... haha)

The food that comes out of this restaurant is FANTASTIC! It has become a regular spot for us usually once or twice a week easily.

PROS: The crew is very friendly and they even started to remember our regular orders which creates a more personal/comfortable dining experience. The food is AMAZING! Flavors and textures are all managed exceptionally well here which makes it easy to try new dishes. The food is cooked up FAST! Never had to wait longer than 10 mins for an order I placed when I walked in, and TO GO is always ready on arrival. SAUCES! They have a great selection of sauces which you can choose from/self serve and take home for your food, which is very nice to have. PRICING! Very inexpensive, reasonably priced food. Will not break the bank if you decide to buy dinner and maybe an extra dish for lunch the next day.. ;]

CONS: Very limited cons Main con if I had to put one would be the parking area. It's limited and sometimes busy. Usually not a problem at all though. Also worth it to eat there for sure!

The beef salad rolls were well made and tasty, making the visit worthwhile. The beef chow fun was below average: the beef has a good texture, however it was overly salty. In contrast, the sweet gravy seemed to be just poured over it. The contrast in taste was offensive. The chow fun noodles were great, thin with just the right al dente. There should be some color contrasting vegetables to balance out the smell and sight of food, but there wasn’t. The pot stickers were the typical grocery store type, at least they fried them thus upping their taste. Food was served quickly. I guess they assumed we were ordering takeout as no water was offered- that’s ok. I’d rather be served quickly, so they still earned 3 stars. Maybe ask if I want to takeout or eat...
