Charm and Manners — Restaurant in Portsmouth

On, Sunday, June 1, 2025. We had a horrible experience at Charm and Manners. We was shown to our table by the bar tender. We sat there as two waitresses pass us by for over 45 minutes. We got up and was leaving (I was already out the door) we was called back in by the bar tender. She said someone will take our order. Yet, again the two waitresses looked our way made faces at each other and continued to pass us by. So we left again. We was outside and 2 patrons (who was sitting across from us) had finished their meal and came up to us and said the food was good but the waitresses was rude and unprofessional. One of the patron said her friend told her to go outside and calm down because she was getting ready to go off on the waitresses for us. But, I told her I didn't want to eat where the waitresses is ghetto and unprofessional. You should never eat at a place where waitresses are unprofessional. You don't know what they will do to your food. The bar tender was very professional and courteous. And so was the gentleman that wiped off the table for us to sit at. Now, we was sitting at a table that sat 6 and it was 3 of us. The 3 of us have traveled near and far to support black own business and I have to say that these waitresses has made this the worse experience. We have traveled all of thevEast Coast and part of the Gulf Coast to support black business. And we will order no less than $175.00 in food and drinks and give very generous tips. Welp, we left Charm and Manners in Portsmouth, VA and went to a black owned business in Norfolk, VA and blessed them that day. The moral of the story is don't block...

Went here with my entire family for a birthday dinner for sister in law. We were seated right away. We notice a live band person was setting up to play music. The waitress was not as attentive to our table as she had long periods without coming to our table. The manager went to other tables to check on customers but neglected the biggest table in the room us. The food was very very good and came out hot and fresh. It did take a little longer than I would have like for my food but when it did come out if was delicious. The waitress had us wait over 10 min to put a drink order in. We ordered alcoholic drinks and she forgot them twice. We asked her when 15-20 min past and we didn't get a drink. She said shoot i forgot was said yes you did. She eventually bought the first set of drinks out. We ordered refills on our alcoholic beverage but they never came out. We are and paid for our meals and drinks still never came. We reminded her when we asked for the check and told her nevermind we wanted it with our meal but we done eating. Outside of the waitress the place was a very nice spot to eat at and hear music while you eat. Will come back just don't want that waitress. And if you like using silverware you won't get any here. Plastic forks and spoon in plastic with napkins is all you get. Still was able to eat but beautiful plates but...

I clicked on the review app before I even got my food because I was just that impressed with the service and vibe. Isyss made our experience wonderful from the minute we walk through the door. But the hostess and even a bartenders all had smiles and we're all welcoming. Now the food... It took a minute to write this because I could not get my face out of the plate. SSOOOO GOOD! I had the catfish with cabbage mac and cheese and an extra side of mashed potatoes and gravy my husband had the catfish with yams macaroni and cheese. I wanted to order the collards but it had turkey meat in it, however as I was stepping outside to take a picture there was a young lady coming back in and she was acting one of the cooks was he the one to make the greens. So when I asked her where they that good she said she had not left the parking lot yet she sampled The Greens in the parking lot and remained to eat all the greens so she had to come back in for a second order. I asked Ms Isyss for a small sample with just a few of the leaves just to taste and I should not have done that...straight MISSILE!! Everything was prepared perfectly everything was delicious I don't even eat yams but I tasted a sample of my husband's and they were not too sweet they were not mushy, just good.
