My wife and I normally have pizza every Friday but we both agreed to scout out Chinese food restaurant. Well if Portsmouth can satisfy our palate they will gain 2 customers. So we looked up Jacky Chan, a fairly new restaurant and not even 7 minutes away from us. We were both impressed with the cleanliness and great flow of customers and door dashing. But what really caught our attention is many chefs in the kitchen, the cleanliness of entire cooking and food prep area. Amazingly the menu and pictures displayed was excellent because nothing like the internet photos and I say there’s another start for the real picture offerings. We ordered while our food was freshly prepped, prepared and packaged to go. We’re only minutes away and back home to prepare our meals. Well, Joseph enjoyed his pepper steak and delicious jasmine rice freshly cooked. I had shrimp egg foo young, a shrimp egg roll and shrimp fried rice. Now we both had enough for 2 additional meals for the next day. We really, truly enjoyed our meal and the fare market price. What really topped it off was the tasty fortune cookies that are never enough. We can honestly say, “ this establishment has food quality and service on point. The food had the been prepared as if we were at a fine dining restaurant. It’s really a great experience when your palate has been matched up by cleanliness that’s well lit, a good amount of people prepping and look to be enjoying preparing our food, everyone has cleaned laundered attire and the service was provided with a warm welcome & a please enjoy. I just finished my food and hubby has some of his order left. We have already planned next Friday’s order. We surely do appreciate Jacky Chan and family or colleagues being close to us and outstanding service, food and cleanliness. If you want really good historic Chinese food or hunan, Cantonese or any cuisine you’ve got to get going to Jacky Chan’s on Town Point Road in...
Read moreI ordered Chicken Chow Mein which I assumed would be similar to the Chow Mein I have had at other places. For example, I eat Trader Joe's Chicken Chow Mein regularly and it looks like the picture below. I also googled Chicken Chow Mein and all the dishes look similar to the Trader Joe's version. However, at Jacky Chen's it is a saucy cabbage, celery and chicken dish without noodles. Their website doesn't provide a description so for anyone else who might assume they are getting a noodle dish, I have provided a picture below so you can see what you will receive at Jacky Chen's. I have been a loyal customer at Jacky Chen's for many years and was really surprised by the response I received when I called to explain that what I received was vastly different from what I believed that I was ordering. I think it is only fair that they include a description or a photo on their online menu so that customers know what they are getting. Instead of acknowledging that this could be confusing to customers, I was told repeatedly (in a condescending tone) that I must not have ever had Chow Mein and that the information that turned up in my Google search was incorrect. Given that their version is so different, in my opinion it seems that providing a description or a picture would be the right thing to do for future customers. Although this was quite frustrating, the rest of the food was good so I am giving it 2 stars overall.
On a side note, Trader Joe's Chicken Chow Mein is amazing and highly recommended! Jacky Chen's Chow Mein is a 1 star dish...

My usual Chinese spot is on vacation so I decided to go to Jacky Chen. I remember them being amazing at their old location. Once they moved I tried them and it was bad. I decided to give them another chance today. The fried rice and egg rolls that come with the combo orders had large pieces of pork fat. My order was almost $80 for my family. I ordered 3 orders of Crab Rangoon. These things were hard as a rock, it was hard to but it. It’s like they fried them the day before or in the morning and was just refrying them for people’s orders. There was less than a table spoon of filling and got many that were not filled. Manager says their oil must be old. I don’t believe that.He said next time I come in I’ll get a free Rangoon. I live more than 20 minutes away after having a horrible meal I was not driving back out. I’m never come back here. All of all the Chinese places I’ve been to in my life and places I’ve lived this was the worse one I’ve...
