Donutopolis — Restaurant in Poway

My family and I flew in from across the country and made this place our first stop. I had placed a Door Dash pickup order 2 days in advance for my son’s birthday. When the older man comes out with my box I repeat my order to him, “a dozen of gluten free donuts right?” “No you placed an order for 6. They are $2.75 each.” “No, I placed an order for a dozen”. Long story short…I showed him the proof and instead he went on saying “Oh, that would be too cheap….the other place down the street charges blah blah. Thats a mistake on Door Dash and we’ll fix it later”….I still needed the other 6 donuts and he decided to charge me….see, as a business owner myself, I would have given him the other 6 for free and apologized for that. Then I would have corrected the mistake on Door Dash to avoid future confusion…No apologies from this business. Just pure greed and bad business. I haven’t tried the donuts yet, matter fact, I haven’t even looked at them from how pissed I am. But better be some good donuts...

When I learned that this shop makes ridiculously large birthday donuts, I knew I had to get one for my donut lover's birthday.

You can order up to 3 tiers for the birthday donut. I just got 1 tier and it was the largest donut I've ever seen with my own eyes. FYI: It is not a cake decorated to look like a donut (which was what I was worried about). It is 100% yeast donut, which makes it so amazing.

I called the day before to order and paid $13 at pickup. You can put whatever glaze or toppings you want on it. They even have bacon topping, but it costs extra (understandable).

My birthday man was laughing and crying with joy when I gave it to him. He'll remember this donut/birthday for the rest...

I was getting pizza next door and while I was waiting, decided to get some sweets. I haven’t been back to this place since they opened. So this was a great refresher.

I got half a dozen mixed of 3 sugar, 1 blueberry, 1 red velvet, and 1 chocolate. The sugar dough was a bit dry but it was fluffed, light, and airy. The blueberry and red velvet exceeded my expectation of how good it was! I thought it would be sugary sweet but it wasn’t. It had the perfect texture and semi sweet. You can totally tell it was home made by a mom and pop shop and not like the chain names. Blueberry was my favorite, tasted exactly like the blueberry cereal/cake flavor.
