First, let me start by saying that this story actually starts about a month ago. I had called Philander's to set a reservation for my Fiance's birthday party. When I called, the lady on the other end of the phone said that they don't take reservations for a Saturday. So I figured that since they don't take reservations, it shouldn't be an issue bringing about 10-12 of her friends as well as ourselves to their establishment for her birthday. So a month rolls by and it's the day of her birthday party. I come in and I let one of the waitresses there know that we'll be bringing in about 10-12 people and that we will likely be there for about 4 or 5 hours. She then proceeds to tell me that they've already got a reservation for a birthday party booked as well as a meat raffle for the Lion's Club and if we wanted to be there, we'd have to be gone by 5pm (at this point it's already almost 4pm). So not only am I pissed about the fact that they lied to me about even taking reservations, we weren't even going to be able to spend but maybe an hour tops. So I really can't speak on how the food was on my visit or the drinks since we never even got to have any. I can speak to how rudely I was treated while I was there. I won't be going back...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm done eating here and it's sad. Our past several orders have been take out and every time there's been something wrong with it. This time we asked for mayo with our two burgers. We got NOTHING, not even ketchup. We were already in Hastings when we found out. You want $8 for a burger with no lettuce, tomato, or even ketchup? Get real. I could probably get a better burger from DQ down the street. I also think you either make your hamburgers en mass and keep them in a warming table or microwave them to death because the last two times the burgers have been hard and dry. We paid $14 for the second burger today and yet again, we got no toppings beyond the Swiss and mushroom. I don't think there was even the sauce for the mushrooms that is supposed to be on there. You want people to pay $40-$50 for dry, barely passable food and expect us to tip also? Get real. I'd rather eat a hamburger from a convenience store at this rate. I'm so sad about this because I love this restaurant but I refuse to go back after so...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt always irks me when a bar and grill confuses itself as an event center. My family has gone to Philanders on a weekly/bi-weekly basis for a long time out of convenience. The food is up to par with your average bar and grill.
Tonight however, we tried to go there for dinner, walked through the pouring rain just to get inside the door and be told that they were "only serving golfers." Apparently, Philanders is trying to become an event center. I wouldn't be so turned off if they communicated that they were adding this element to their business but this seems to be a poorly planned, poorly executed change. So we won't be visiting this establishment from now on. There's no way of knowing whether it will be a day where they are serving less valued customers like us or if said day is only dedicated to a certain crowd and I'm not going to stand outside and get soaked to find out if we are worthy that...
