We stopped in at The Gin on Friday night. We were disappointed to be seated right NEXT to the bathrooms; so that we could see every person going in and out, and into the bathrooms with each door swing. Talk about losing your appetite! Our server was fine. However, my husband ordered lemon pepper wings. They were burnt! He complained to the server and she took them back to the kitchen, but then brought them back out!! She explained that they were out of wings because wings are frozen... basically expecting him to eat the burnt wings. He said, never mind and ordered something else. Then he asked for a Bud Light. She told him they were out!! On Friday night at 10 pm they were out of chicken wings AND Bud Light. Poor management. Then he asked to speak with the manager when she brought the bill. The manager took over 10 minutes to come out, and that was only after asking the server a second time to go get him. When the manager finally came out, he had an attitude. My husband asked him if he had heard what had happened at our table (burnt wings they tried to serve him twice, no Bud Light, having to order something he didn't really want and then eat alone bc it came after everyone else had been served and eaten). The manager said Yes. Yet he did not apologize. He actually tried to defend the burnt wings. Even after I showed him a photo!! See attached and decide if those look like fresh lemon pepper wings. He said "that's they way they come." He did not apologize for taking so long to come out. He just said "I was in the kitchen helping with a customer order." Really? You have an upset customer and you are more worried about helping the kitchen with a new order? He then got up and went to the register... no word... stood there for 5 minutes and when we asked for him to get our server so we could pay the bill he sharply said - "I took care of it!" Well fine, but that is not even what we were asking for. We really just wanted acknowledgement and an apology, and to provide feedback to someone we thought cared. We will not be back. If you want fresh chicken wings and a popular beer on Friday night, I'd think twice about...
Read moreDisappointed is an understatement. We went to the Gin to celebrate my Mom’s birthday. We waited about 3-4 minutes to be seated despite the place being fairly empty. We were never given dinner menus, just one drink menu for the table. Our server came took our drink orders brought us our drinks and finally grabbed us dinner menus. He came back a few minutes later, and we were still deciding what to order, so he told us he would be back, we sat and waited almost 10 minutes for him to return, while he stood there talking with the bartender. Finally, we were able to order. My mother and I ordered the Roasted Turkey club, and my sister ordered a cheeseburger. Our server came with our food and announced that they had run out of the English muffin for our Turkey Club and that it would be on white bread. …. He didn’t inform us of this issue while we were ordering, or even as we were waiting for our food. We found out as our food was being placed on the table. While delivering the food they told us we ran out of English Muffin, so we used white bread is that okay? It kind of had to be okay, my sister had her food ready, we weren’t going to order something else and wait 20 more minutes for another meal, and we had a birthday party after we couldn’t wait. The Turkey Club was not good at all (It’s my favorite menu item at The Gin, with the white bread they overloaded it with turkey to compensate, and the bread was soggy, I barely ate mine). We asked the server what they could do to take off the bill since we didn’t get what we ordered and weren’t informed until our meal was on the table, and he grabbed his manager. The manager came over very annoyed asking what the problem was we explained we didn’t get what we had ordered. He was unsympathetic, I mentioned this was my mom’s birthday dinner and this really ruined the night. He told us stating “he could only take off a couple bucks it wasn’t much but it’s the most he could do’, no real apology for the poor service or bad experience he just seemed like we were inconveniencing him. We won’t...
Read moreThe other night I was looking for a place that was open late where I could take my computer and do some work. If this place had good drinks and some food, that would be ideal. So I searched for restaurants on Google maps. The Cotton Gin and The Gin popped up on this road in the middle of nowhere, but Google maps said The Gin was open until midnight. I couldn't find much about it online but went anyway. That turned out to be a terrific decision.
Thursday night football was playing on several large TVs, while the Thursday night college game occupied the other ones. The inside is nice with a handful of tables and a nice bar to sit at, but the space out back is great. Both covered and uncovered seating, tables, couches, a fireplace with a fire going, big TVs, bean bag toss and a stage for what I'm sure will be live music from time to time.
They can bring food from The Cotton Gin next door when it's open. When it closes, they still have a chef that offers a smaller menu of appetizers and entrees, but the food was still good. I was told they are about to open a food truck out back (that will always be there) that will cook pizza, burgers, I think they said buffalo wings, and one thing delicious sounding items. I was talked into a couple of the craft whisky cocktails and found both to be delicious (will definitely order both again even though I normally drink my whiskey "neat").
Yes, I managed to get some work done, but when I walked around, it looked like the other 15-20 people there were also really enjoying their work-free evening.
I'm glad to see a spot like this is Prosper so I don't have to go to old Frisco or old Mckinney all the time. I'll definitely be there...
