SHAME ON YOU Westchester Inn!! I have to say I am beyond disgusted!!! My mom, my 8yo Autistic daughter and myself went to Westchester Inn for lunch. My daughter being autistic has a lot of feeding issues. In the past THERE and many other places, we have brought her own food in. Unfortunately, those that have Autisum have issues with textures, tastes, swallowing/feeding sensitivity. She is one of them that has it all. So her food choices are very limited! We walked in and as we were getting seated, a loud voice from across the restaurant yelled. “Hey, you can’t bring outside food in.” . I turned around and saw a waitress yelling this, but was embarrassed because at this point the whole restaurant was looking at us. The restaurant was half full at this time. We sat down and immediately had 3 employees bombard our table. They were talking extremely loud, saying how this is not allowed and we need to leave the restaurant or remove the outside food. I was trying to explain to them that my daughter physically cannot eat what is served at the restaurant, and that we are planning on buying two meals and an extra meal to go home and an extra soup to go home. The waitress said “we have chicken nuggets, all kids eat that, but this you will it do this in our restaurant.” My daughter at this time started to cry from the shock of 3 employees talking so loudly and she clearly understands what they are saying about her. So, we got up and started to left the restaurant; a few of the other tables asked the waitresses why this was such a big deal? One table even decided they were not going to stay for lunch. When we got outside my heart literally broke because my daughter asked me with tears in her eyes why they were so mean to us and why we had to leave the restaurant? How do you explain to your eight-year-old daughter that she is different from others and that she is being discriminated because of it? She told me repeatedly she was sorry and I immediately explained to her this was not her fault that some people in the world are just cruel. IT IS REALLY SAD AND HEARTBREAKING THAT AN 8yo NEEDS TO APOLOGIZE FOR GROWN PEOPLES ACTIONS AND WRONG DOING!!! She thought she did something wrong. 😞 Immediately, and later on that night, the mama bear was still stewing, so I called and asked for a phone number to the owners. I was told that there was no such number and that I can write an email. I wanted to explain the situation and try to educate and make it right with the restaurant before I posted something publicly. Instead of getting a response back from the owners the manager of the restaurant who is a young lady answered my emails. We continued going back-and-forth. I did send her the ADA law which States those with a disability whether it’s an allergic or a physical disability shall be granted the request of bringing their own food into an establishment; if the establishment cannot meet the disability needs. She replied back, how that bringing in the outside food was causing them a lack in their revenue, disrupting their ambience in the restaurant, and this is their policy, and it is what it is. I asked again if we can talk to the owners rather than her, and she replied, the owners, don’t take care of restaurant issues like this. All I have to say is SHAME ON YOU WESTCHESTER INN. And one day, I pray you are never faced with a circumstance like this of your own because the way you treated an eight-year-old little girl with a disability that can’t control is...
Read moreAmazing ethnic place serving czech and slovak cuisine (somewhat related also to german, austrian, polish and hungarian dishes). Place is smaller but neat, clean, welcoming and cozy. Wait staff is friendly and welcoming, also very helpful in pointing some places might be interesting to go to for ones that are visiting town. Food was very delicious and portions way beyond one’s ability to eat entire plate. Menu was offering quite bit of varieties of my famous Central European dishes. Beer selection was missing at least one of czech or slovak beers as draft but was offered in bottles. Complimentary bread and butter basket is served to all guests (not sure if it comes free also to those that come for drinks only as we came dining), on behalf of bread I need to point quality of it. After I tasted this delicious slice of crunchy outside and soft inside bread, I performed my trick test how I determine quality of dough needed to make this Central European bread. Holding slice in the middle (soft part) with two fingers -one on top, one on bottom I pressed fingers and squeezed slice, then released. Slice came back to looking like I never touched it. “Just like sponge 🧽”. I knew then that this is masterpiece that I have not seen for a decade or little more. Bread making is artistry, passion and lots of skills to me. After pointing high quality of bread to waitress I was informed that bread is made in house and it is also offered to buy to go (expected very busy day -so they don’t run out of it as complimentary serving). Hi five to those that make it!!! Ok. Back to food. We ordered Gypsy Goulash (cikánský guláš) with bread dumpling and potato pancake (could not to choose between those two as side so I asked for mix of those in smaller servings) and Marinated Sirloin (svíčková) with Creamy sauce and bread dumplings. I tell you folks it was delicious, tasting like it supposed to, and there was so much meat that one cannot finish so we take rest in to go box. We also had beef broth and noodles soup before meal that was of same quality as anything I described above! You guys at Westchester Inn won my heart ❤️ and we will be back every time we are visiting Chicago now on!!!! Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ + ⭐️ is definitely and absolutely MUST!!! Thank soooo much for such great dining...
Read moreIf you have a handicap and are in a wheel chair you are not welcome here. The restaurant is not handicap friendly. A lot of your clientele are elderly! I take my 95 year old Mom here once a year when I am here visiting. Never have we had a pleasant server. Like another reviewer said it's like your an inconvenience to them. We still go though, because the food is good and Bohemian Crystal and Riverside are gone. This last time we were treated so poorly, I decided to leave a review. As soon as we maneuvered getting my Mom in the front door we were given a disgusted look by the hostess with the thick curly black hair. She said we have no table available for a wheelchair. No I'm sorry you might want to come back. There was a booth by the door empty that would have been easy to put her on the end. Hostess said NO. A table nearby even offered to scoot their table over so we could leave her in her chair and put us at a booth by the wall out of the way. Hostess said NO.Since we didn't want to leave, I helped my Mom out of her wheelchair into the booth which isn't an easy task. With all the added business you are getting from Bohemian Crystal and Riverside you might consider expanding and having a more handicap accessible place. I'm sure you would do well. The last thing I would like to mention is not everyone drinks coffee, so why not offer coffee or a soft drink with your meal or deduct the cost of the coffee from your bill since it's included with...
