Before Ono's moved into the old Ripple's buildings, I had two really great experiences with the food truck. The malasadas were hot and delicious, with better dough than their competitors.
That said, we had a less than stellar experience at the new building tonight. My kalua pork sandwich was delicious, if cold, but the monte cristo and chicken sandwiches were "okay" and "not very good," respectively. My mom said the chicken was quite tough: she suspects it was stored frozen and had just been reheated in the microwave for her sandwich. The malasadas were all pretty cold by the time we got them, so I can only assume they fried all five (three savory, two sweet), then made the savory sandwiches, and finally called out our order for pickup. I'd stick to ordering sweet and savory separately so your sweet malasadas don't get cold and disappointing while they prep any sandwiches.
I did also order the Ripples Fresh Lime, and it was just as good as it was back in the day.
I thought the sandwich pricing was at least reasonable, but my mom was treating us, and she was shocked at the portions for the price. To be fair, some of that might have to do with how she felt about...

If you know anything about malasadas you probably love them like I do! Most of the workers looked to be teenage kids; they took our order and everything (a dozen malasadas and 2 hot chocolates) was ready in just a few minutes. However, the order wasn't quite what we told them - everything was covered in powdered sugar (although some were specifically supposed to have no sugar and just cinnamon sugar or white sugar). They did get the filings correct which was good. Since it was Patrick's Day they were green colored which was a cute little surprise when we opened the box. The malasadas themselves were okay - I've made better at home though. These are definitely not on the same level as Leonard's (for any who are well acquainted with this local Hawaiian bakery). Probably won't revisit but I'm glad to support small businesses. If your in the area feel free to...
Read moreOnoh's Malasada Co. is a gem for anyone craving a taste of Hawaiian-style malasadas. These Portuguese-style doughnuts are fried to order, ensuring every bite is warm, fluffy, and absolutely fresh. The experience is all about customization, allowing you to build your own perfect treat with a variety of fillings, sugars, and drizzles.
A standout combination is the Haupia malasada with white sugar. The coconut cream filling is incredibly smooth and not overly sweet, providing a delicate and tropical contrast to the rich, fried dough. It’s a classic Hawaiian flavor that feels both authentic and comforting. For something richer, the Cookie Butter filling is a decadent choice. It's a sweet, spiced-cookie delight that pairs perfectly with the airy malasada and is a favorite for good reason. And if you're looking for a nutty, sweet experience, the maple praline with white sugar is an exceptional choice. The maple and nutty flavors add a sophisticated twist to the classic treat, making for a truly...
