I hadn't been in a pier 49 pizza in at least 10 years. So when I had the faintest memory of a place my father would take us whilst we were vacationing I knew I wanted to give it a go to see if it lived up to its childhood memory.
Lo and behold it has. We ordered a cheese bread, full house pizza (sampler pizza) and a cinnamon bread.
The cheese bread was well covered in cheese and the marina it came with was quite excellent. If all you are craving is cheese bread this place is quite nice and is remarkably light on the stomach especially if lactose intolerant.
The pizza was very good, the dough was excellent and when we discovered it was sour dough we knew why we liked it so much. We sampled the buffalo chicken, pepperoni, pesto and 3 meat. The buffalo chicken was incredible and was a crowd favorite. The pepperoni once again was delicious and light on grease which is impressive given the amount of pepperoni. Papa murphy's large pepperoni pizza has enough grease to fill a 44oz mug so this was a welcome divergence from what I associate with pepperoni pizzas. The pesto was very good which is a surprise as I do not enjoy pesto generally, and was not overpowering which can be the case with pesto infused dishes. Finally, the 3 meat was also mild on grease and very good, perfect for my more carnivorous diet.
The dessert, being the cinnamon sticks, went light on the cinnamon sugar and was thus a more of a sweetened bread versus an all out sugary dessert but was also enjoyed by everyone.
The final and large part of this review was the owner who despite us coming in near closing made us feel unrushed and spoke to us very kindly while we decided even offering suggestions as we discussed and he went as far as to offer us a little discount when he learned I hadn't been in for over a decade. All-in-all we were extremely impressed and we will...
Read moreStaff was rude, didn't listen, wouldn't communicate and left out parts of orders. Food was good, once we got it. The pizza had WAY too much cheese, crust was a little soggy, not all of the cheese was melted, and the flavor was way off.
The owner took our order and acted like there was a huge line so we needed to hurry up and order our food - the wad only one other person in the place and they were already seated. He was so stressed and acted like he also didn't know how to work the computer.
Our pizza was brought out missing some toppings. I told the girl who brought us the pizza that the toppings were missing and she got huffy then said, "Ok," and walked off. I was left wondering what was going on, and waited several minutes for her to come back, but she never did - she was at the front desk taking orders. I finally had to go back to the kitchen door and wait for someone (I'm assuming the owner) to see me, only then was I told that a smaller pizza was being put in for me. I also asked about a whole other item that we had ordered but wasn't brought out and they said we had never asked for it. I asked if we could please get it since they had already screwed up our order and weren't listening in the first place and he said only if I went and paid for it. I told him to forget it.
We won't be coming back here. Rude owner who doesn't know how to work his business, and...
Read moreLet me set the record straight. Pier 49 pizza is as much of a joke as the current presidential options we're facing. I have tried not once, not twice, but three times, to enjoy their pizza. The first time they said they were "closed" (sign said 9:00pm. It was 8:40pm). The second time they were closed in the middle of the day due to "utilities difficulties." The third time I waited for over an hour for my delivery and finally called to see where it was. Oh, you mean you haven't even flattened out dough for it yet? Perfect! Well it's already been an hour so why not wait another thirty minutes for a sat-on, squished, greasy-filled, lukewarm, disappointment-ridden pizza?
