Very disappointing and rushed visit. I would not return here. My 2 friends and I were trying to get an afternoon tea reservation here for couple months. We finally got a 4pm on Good Friday. We ordered a full tea expecting we’d have a normal leisurely afternoon tea. But we were feeling the pressure to finish up and leave by only 30 mins past our reservation time! We were told kitchen closed at 4:30 and deterred from ordering anymore food. The tea service platter didn’t even come out until about 15-20 minutes post our order yet we were rushed to finish up. Sensing the push already I had asked when could I purchase at shop until and was told best to do it now. The push continued as our check was laid on table 40 mins in but we were told “no hurry” however less than 2 minutes later she returned for us to pay and then since we weren’t ready she returned again 5 minutes later for us to pay. At which time we did and it was clearly explained to us where the tip button was if we wanted to leave a tip! All the while floors were being swept and tables being rearranged all around us because apparently a party reservation was coming in. I finally gave up mid bite of my tea sandwich and we asked her to bring containers and gave up. We literally packed up the entire 3rd tier of tray and half of rest to take home and eat! At the time of paying my friend made a suggestion for improvement to not take 4pm reservations if your going to rush us out. Better to end reservations at say 3:30 to allow for a relaxed and full tea experience. She did nothing with our comment no manager came out to apologize no credit on check not even a free scone to apologize. In fact I needed to remind her I ordered one to take home. In my opinion a full tea requires at least 1.5 hours not 30mins. I also personally didn’t like the look of the tea settings. They were not British styled with flowers but instead boring styled solid colors that looked like they were from the dollar store. Oh but food was tasty (although personally I don’t rank these as the best scones I’ve had and I’ve had scones in London) but this is why I’m ok with...
Read moreFood was very good, but we had a poor experience with service.
My wife and I went to afternoon tea. I specified in the reservation that my wife had a nut allergy. We also reminded the waitress when ordering if this, and asked if what we wanted contained nuts, she told us no. The menu itself also did not list when an item had nuts.
We ordered a cheese tray to start which was brought out containing a small bowl of walnuts (after we had now already mentioned the nut allergy twice). She removed them and we went about eating.
The tray also contained sliced bread with raisins and what appeared to be nuts. We asked the waitress again if the bread contains nuts or if we were looking at some kind of seed/grain, to which she told us they were grains and not nuts. She returned to the kitchen and we continued eating. A few minutes later she returns stating, "They are nuts. It's fruit and nut bread."
Apparently she did not know what was on the tray she just served and didn't ask if anything else contains nuts after we had already now mentioned this nut allergy twice to her.
Luckily my wife did not consume much of it and only had a mild reaction after I made a quick trip to a nearby CVS to get her Benadryl. Not trying to ruin the special occasion we were celebrating, we remained and the waitress said the tray would be comped.
We appreciated the gesture but there was a surprising lack of urgency or reaction from the staff what could have been a very serious situation. We overheard her talking about the issue in the kitchen but to our surprise the manager never came over to say something or apologize to us.
The rest of the food and tea were delicious and we still had a good time, but the overall experience was certainly diminished by a lack of care from the staff.
It is hard to say I would trust this location again for patrons with allergies after we reiterated multiple times of the tables nut allergy, and they still failed to be careful in what...
Read moreFYI: Updated Review for a new visit! Here we are almost a year later and we had a wonderful visit this time as well! I love the tea that I ordered and the food was top notch again. This time though, I bought lots of goodies to bring home.
Aside from tea I bought a half dozen chocolate chip scones and half dozen lemon scones. I brought them home frozen. After I heat and try one I will post how it turned out. They gave me a choice of fresh or frozen and I figured I would need to heat it anyway so why not try frozen.
The only disappointment was the fact that they did not have a large side of the clotted cream. They only had three tiny jars for $2.50 each. That will not be enough for all of my scones! I also picked up some raspberry jam to try. We love this place!
Don’t forget to make a reservation! We tried to pop in a few weeks ago without one and sadly had to leave. It looks like they are expanding the store so hopefully that will make seating more available.
This was our first visit here and we will certainly return. A friend bought me a gift card knowing that I am a tea drinker. After looking at the website they advertised having a “proper” British tea with a variety of sandwiches, scones, and desserts. We didn’t order that but we tried nearly some version of everything on the menu.
I ordered the egg salad croissant and my husband ordered the chicken salad croissant. Both were chock full and were excellent. They clearly use quality ingredients in everything they make. I also had a buttermilk scone with lemon curd which was really good.
Finally we ordered the pastry sampler for dessert. I loved the key lime pastry. My husband enjoyed the berry parfait and a chocolate dipped shortbread.
As if the lunch wasn’t enough they have a great gift shop full of most things on the restaurant menu and then some. I was happy to leave there with left overs from lunch and the items I bought from the shop. We will certainly return when we are...
