First time dining LaScala (Villanova), sat your bar on 12/3.
One hour to kill before meeting my husband. 10+ mins just to get a drink, had to call out to get a drink, please. Bartender (Maddie) seemed dismissive and unengaging, but I gave her the benefit of my doubt because I was not in any hurry. 1/2 hour later, it's time for drink #2, and unfortunately, I had the same dismissive experience (finally called out again to bartender, Maddie). I'm just trying to order another drink and request a soup. I was perplexed! It's funny because I texted my husband "very odd place"!
At the end of the bar, where I sat was a gathering place of employees passing through, which was fun to watch. In the meantime, at the bar, I also met a very nice young man Justin who as you know, works for you. He was is having some dinner at the bar. He was very kind and engaging. Between Justin and the employees, it made the odd experience with bartender (Maddie) better. Hubby showed up, and we experienced the same dismissiveness by Maddie, just trying to get a drink 🤔! Once again, I had to call out for a drink! We talked about dining inside or just going elsewhere, but we decided to stay. Big mistake!!! We ordered tuna dish (Justin recommended) and meatballs for noshing appetizers, then ordered 2 meals for dinner. Out comes the two dinners first, then the tuna, so I said we ordered apps first, then meals. Because everything was coming at once, I said to the server, "I'm sorry, but just forget meatballs."
Here is where it goes, awry!!! Server walked over to bartender Maddie and obviously informed her, and that's when I watched them both eyeroll, dismissive, and smiling with a gesture like can you believe this lady!!! That's it, I'm outta here! I went to the desk and asked for Manager, to my surprise, Addysen, who was among employees at the bar, assisted my complaint. She was there the entire time but I complained only about the whole meal experience. It wasn't even the food delivery. We would have been fine minus meatballs! It was the after response of the BT, and the server was when I was done! I paid for our drinks ($80. & only included $5. tip). I hate that this night out with hubby turned out this way. We spend money and leave great tips! This whole experience was very disappointing. The point is that it's a loss for Lascala. Always somewhere else to go. We won't be back. Thank you
To owner: On the receipt, it said Maddie so I just want to make sure the negative goes to the...
Read moreOn Friday, January 27th my sister (29 y.o.), niece (23 y.o.), and I (24 y.o.) decided to get an early dinner at LaScala's Fire. This was our first time here and we sat at the bar. After putting our drink order in with the bartender named Chad, he asked to see our IDs (totally understandable). He collected our IDs and walked to the back with them, when he returned he threw down our IDs on the counter and said loud enough for customers around us to hear "I'm not serving you, this is a fake ID," looking at me. I thought he was joking at first. I insisted it was not a fake ID and asked if he would like to see another form of identification. I also noted that I had recently renewed my licence and the formatting is different than the older versions. He continues saying in a loud voice "its fake and I'm not serving you," and was dismissive. Customers sitting around us were turning their heads listening to the encounter. The situation was extremely embarrassing and incredibly unprofessional. I asked to see the manager and explained the situation to her. They went into the back to look into the PA state ID formats? When they returned she apologised and said it was real. LIKE I KNOW. The manager was calm and very polite. However, Chad the bartender was so rude and inappropriate. The way he handled the situation was mortifying and that is why I am so upset about it. He did not apologise once. I expect bartenders to be knowledgable about their own states ID and formatting that has been in effect for FOUR MONTHS. I got up and told them I will not be giving them my business and explained how upsetting and embarrassing the situation was. I honestly don't think I'll ever be coming back. I've also shared this story with friends and family members. Disgusting treatment as an...

We thought we’d try LaScala's Fire Villanova; my partner had a LaScala Chopped Salad and Arancini; I had Veal Parmigiano and Stuffed Long Hots. I arrived a bit before the time I was given for pick up, waited about 10 minutes for my food, drove home (about 8 minutes), sat down, opened the bag and spread out the food.
The long hots were warm and everything else was cold. The veal was inedible and the rest was, at best, mediocre.
We received 3 large Arancini that were perfectly round and each had the same filling inside in exactly the same locations. It seemed to me they were made by an extremely accurate individual or by a machine.
The long hots had scorch marks but no grill taste and no firmness. To me they seemed to have the consistency of something cooked, frozen and microwaved.
The veal was inedible. When I opened the container I found a wide piece of meat that seemed like it was deep fried with dark brown breading; in the middle were a couple of pieces of melted cheese. The cheese covered about 1/3 and the rest had no cheese and no sauce. The veal rested on a bed of lightly sauced cold linguini. When I cut into the veal I found the breading was twice as thick as the veal. Since the veal was way overcooked it was stiff as a piece of ¼ inch plywood.
From what we had my suspicion is that they get a lot of their food already prepared and frozen then “cook” it by simply reheating. If you go you can ask them about that. I won’t have the chance to ask them since I...
