We found this place looking for a good ramen restaurant before we headed back from Raleigh. Honestly, I’d recommend it to anyone. Typically when we go to a new restaurant we order a little of everything to see how the flavors are and to see if something is lacking while something else may be phenomenal. Gen Ramen does not have to worry about any dish lacking. We ordered 1 of every bun type and truly they were all very delicious and flavorful. They had excellent amount of freshness and crispness to each bite if the ingredients were supposed to have them and I could brandy order just buns and be okay. Apologies for the buns being half eaten in the photo they were so good re couldn’t resist before I was able to snap a shot.
We also got the ramen. We got the tonkatsu and the spicy ramen. I’m not a ramen hater by any means but I always prefer Pho. That being said I’d probably choose this tonkatsu over pho any day. The broth was extremely flavorful, the noodles hat the right amount of bite to them and a perfect texture. I still can’t get over the broth which I believe is advertised of being cooked for 20...
Read moreWe went there for a date night and it was a great experience. The restaurant vibe is very cozy and has good lighting. The service is quick and servers and quite friendly. Their concept of an open kitchen gives you a glance of where the magic happens. We tried the house salad which has an amazing and tasty dressing, that I could eat every day! Their edamame are out one of the best I have ever tried, not sure how they do it but oh my there are so good!!! We tried the Umami fried and it was cooked perfectly, the sauce was also quite tasty. Then for main dishes, we tried the Tonkotsu Ramen with an extra egg and the broth was super tasty and delicious. The ramen noodles were good and the pork belly was mouth watering. Lastly we finished with a sushi roll, the dragon and it was also very tasty and delicious! Fresh ingredients, great chefs and a friendly staff. We are definitely coming back There is other stuff on their menu that I can't wait to try. I'll update you on my return. This is a great Ramen restaurant, there is none in that part of town so it is a great addition. I highly...
Read moreThe era of evaluating Japanese restaurants solely based on their freshness or taste seems to have passed. That level of quality is now expected from any top Japanese restaurant considered good in the area. Therefore, I focus on how much the soul of the chef is infused into the menu and whether the texture and temperature of the food are appropriate. In this regard, I would like to give high marks to Gen Ramen, a new Japanese restaurant that recently opened in Raleigh. While some of their rolls may be lacking in size and presentation, and their deep-fry level could be improved, the marinating/seasoning and frying of the chicken Karaage are among the best in the neighborhood. Additionally, the broth and temperature of the soup in their Tonkotsu Ramen (an original Japanese style), along with the yolk doneness of the egg, demonstrate exceptional effort and dedication and are highly...
